2008 Pol Roger Champagne Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill France, Champagne

Finest Champagne I've drunk in at the past few years! The essence of refinement in the pol Style, with plenty of Pinot weight. Gorgeous Brioche nose, tiny bubbles with froth effervesnce. In the mouth, all refinement, very fresh, but clearly a wine with aged character that hints at even greater things to come. Superb modulated and leghthy finish.

Citric fruit aromas and flavours, gorgeous texture and depth from sur lie notes. Pin point acid, fabulous length. Pointed clarity and a (lean, direct) depth of body and persistence through the entire palate. Just a baby. One of the tasters (former senior show judge thought it was worth 96!). I would have thought a sure bet for the cellar, with considerable upside potential... 95-96+++

2008 Meure's Wines Pinot Noir d'meure Special Reserve Australia, Tasmania, Southern Tasmania

Exotic Pinot with fine dimension, but a bit to much VA. Sweet, and pure varietal character, with a touch of funk that adds complexity. I liked the wine's balance, which was an outstanding example of cool climate pinot.A wine that follows its own path -I'm sad that the winery no longer exists.

Certainly at full-maturity. The terry character on the nose feels quite Bordeaux-like, as does the palate, with the difference in thickness of fruit and abroad tannic structure, which is quite unlike Bordeaux, flavour spectrum apart. As per normal, the wine uses VA as a defining aspect of the wine. As per normal, the VA works, although not as successfully as the "monster" vintages. Some cedar, currant fruit, green leaf, and thick structural elements gives this wine outstanding dimension and complexity. As a wine, excellent, but knowing the heights that Harlan can reach (considering its style), not the greatest vinatge.
