A deep darkish nearly-tawny gold color clearly showing development. A whiff of walnuts and toasted oak on the nose, somewhat sherry-like but not pronounced. Very ripe notes of dried mango and apricot - the uber sweet raisinned kind that are often used for snacks with our cheese platter, and clear honey, butter and toast. Notes that a lover of really old full-bodied and intense oxidative white wine would dig. I was told it has been opened for 2-3 days, and there was come development in flavours in the midst, so can’t really tell what it could have been like when just opened in the couple of days prior. Good level of complexity though

Green herbal on the nose and palate, while there are some sense of fruit ripeness and alcohol, but green melon, nectarine, cloves, salad leaves. Fortunately there’s a good amount of acidity to counter the burnish alcohol, still keeping a fair balance

A revisit. And this time, enjoyed chilled and letting the ambient temperatures warm up the glass. Apparently a stone fruit freshness that is most apparent when the wine is well-chilled, and then it gets perceptively riper and more cooked as it warms. A strong punch or charred habanero peppers show up midway, before this gets overwhelmed by sherry-nuttiness in the warmer region. Now I’m really finding this one interesting, as I don’t think I have had any wine that displayed such vast differential notes at different temperatures. Definitely recommended to any who wishes to experience
Red
2017 Viña Cono Sur Cabernet Sauvignon/Carmenère/Syrah Organic Chile
92 points
Somewhat perfumed rosy nose with peppermint, cassis, even some chalky talcum powder. Acidic, and some powerful mouth-drying tannic attack. Cassis, rose, blueberry, green fern, pepper, nutmeg, bit of bread, and even a touch of paprika, and liquorice towards the end. A nice elegance to it
Red
2014 Giacomo Montresor Amarone della Valpolicella Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Amarone della Valpolicella
90 points
Deep garnet color which suggests age. A blast of barnyard funk, cocoa powder, and stewed meats on the nose. Powerfully intense, with high acids and a big alcohol burn, as well as tannins that creeps up for a sense of dryness. Combined red and black cherries, and a strong mint chocolate hint. Rosy cassis, hint of raisins and even a cola feel on the back and finish, and quite persistent. Good power, yet pretty well balanced and not all out raisinny like many other examples of Amarone. Strange for it’s level of development considering only a 5-year-old

2012 Prelude A Grand-Puy Ducasse France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

A good depth, but quite some fern green and mint along with cassis and blackberry. There’s a good fleshy character as well, and some roses. It’s quite a simple, pleasant one though, but not exactly that characteristic of Pauillac
