Flight 1 (9 notes)

White - Sparkling
N.V. Pierre Gimonnet & Fils Champagne Premier Cru Blanc de Blancs Brut Cuis France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru
Apple scents. Medium body, moderate dosage, a touch of minerality. Good basic cuvée.
White - Off-dry
1983 Joh. Jos. Prüm Bernkasteler Badstube Riesling Spätlese Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
flawed
Healthy medium color but badly corked.
White
2002 Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
Still light yellow. Apple is the predominant fruit. Light, spritzy, just off dry, excellent acidity and stone. Little in the way of maturity.

Medium yellow. More secondary petrol scents than the Kabinett, but similar apple tones. Not sweeter than the lower Pradikat wine but broader and creamier. This bottle actually seemed closer to full maturity but retains fresh acidity too.

Red
2008 Jean-Marc Burgaud Morgon Côte du Py Reserve France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Morgon
Pale red. Nice aromatic mixture of red berry and soil. Light, limpid, soft red fruit and earth. Fully mature. Better fruit and less weedy than so many 2008 Beaujolais.
Red
2009 Jean-Marc Burgaud Morgon Côte du Py Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Morgon
Much deeper, saturated ruby than the 2008 Reserve that came before it. Blackberry jam and some definite funk on the nose. This has that 2009 sappiness without being overripe, and the acidity is sound. A touch of green adds complexity. Of the 3 Burgauds, this was the crowd pleaser, but the brett was dosed a bit too high for my personal taste. It should last for at least a couple more years.

Red
2010 Jean-Marc Burgaud Morgon Côte du Py Reserve France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Morgon
Light red. Again, some brett on the nose, maybe more subdued than the 2009 Vieilles Vignes. Back to a much lighter weight than the 2009. Blackberry fruit, crisper acidity than the older wine, more soil. Very good and I found the brett less distracting.
White - Sweet/Dessert
1989 Domaine Bourillon Dorléans Vouvray Moelleux Tris de Nobles Grains 'La Coulée d'Or' France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray
flawed
Surprisingly pale yellow for its age. Interesting twist of grapefruit and only moderately sweet apricot. There was always a funny off smell and taste that increased with air. I'm not sure whether it was "corked" per se, but it was done in by a cork that had black mold extending 2/3's of the way down the side. Too bad-seems like otherwise it could still be a pretty good bottle.
White - Sweet/Dessert
1990 Domaine Bourillon Dorléans Vouvray Moelleux Tris de Nobles Grains 'La Coulée d'Or' France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray
Deeper light gold color than the flawed 1989. Pure, higher toned honey and quince aromas. Fairly sweet, gorgeous, round feel. Pristine honey-dipped yellow fruit, excellent acidity, harmonious finish. Wonderful way to end the evening. An outperforming dessert wine from this fantastic vintage for late harvest Loire Chenin Blanc.
