Introduction

This was our annual family Christmas Eve celebration. My brother and I alternate hosting and this was their year. It was another memorable year that I cherish more as we all get older.

Flight 1 (6 notes)

White - Sparkling
N.V. Moët & Chandon Champagne Brut Impérial France, Champagne
90 points
Light gold color. From magnum; drank a couple glasses over 90 minutes. Boy, I love what they've done to this Champagne. This is so much more fresh and crisp and quite dry. Pear, yeast, citrus zest and mineral. Very clean and resfreshing and from a mag does not hurt. Probably the best I have had of this. 90+ to 91pts

Rosé - Sparkling
N.V. Billecart-Salmon Champagne Brut Rosé France, Champagne
92 points
Lovely pale pink color. Drank a glass over 30 minutes. Elegant, delicate strawberry and light raspberry fruits with pastry and cream and a lacy lightly limestone minerality. Always a winner 92+pts.

White
2010 Jean-Jacques Vincent Pouilly-Fuissé Le Clos Château de Fuissé France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Pouilly-Fuissé
90 points
Medium dark golden color. Drank a glass over 90 minutes. This round and showing some age and maturity, but still in good shape and fairly consistent with a bottle 2 years ago. Lemon, tangerine, hints of vanilla; lemon oil textue with a little orange, spices, quite dry, limestone and just a little oxidative character.
Red
2008 Heredad de Aduna Rioja Reserva Spain, La Rioja, Rioja
89 points
Dark red color. Small glass. Poured this with the serrano ham and the kids. It was very pleasant, in a good place, and worked well. Medium bodied, a little firm on the tannins.
Red
2008 Pahlmeyer Merlot USA, California, Napa Valley
93 points
Very dark garnet hued red color. PNP, drank 2 glasses over 2 hours. This was singing out of the gate. Very polished, a classic merlot in the best possible way. Full and plush, layered dark fruits; cassis, raspberry and mulberry, charcoal, pencil, silky and long. Loved this as did the crowd. Peaking with room to go on for at least several years.
Red
2002 Beringer Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve USA, California, Napa Valley
93 points
Very dark red/purple color. Drank 1+ glass over 2 hours and finished it off the next night. This was good to begin with and it was better after an hour, but it was a different wine after 24 hours open. Cassis, rose hips, graphite, and blackberry on the nose. The palate is cassis, blackberry liqueur, scorched earth, higher toned, plum and fig. Showing some intensity and a little heat the first night. Tonight this is right in the zone; a beautifully styled cab with no edges and no heat with perfect texture and very plush tannins. The fruit is pure and even, the port-like qualities are gone. Really in strided tonight, this suggests a little more cellar time, maybe a year or two more and this should be at peak. 91+ to 92 day 1, 93pts Day2.
