Flight 1 (4 notes)

Red
2006 Fuligni Brunello di Montalcino Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino

Really beautiful wine done is the classic Fuligni style. It pours deep at the core, lightening toward the rim, just a touch of bricking. The Nose is lovely and open wafting dry hay, red cherries, brown sugar, spicebox, leather, roses, and black tea. The palate is refined and balanced with elevated red fruited acid and medium tannin. The finish is long replaying much of the nose. Lovely and food friendly, Fuligni's Normale is a really distinct style of Brunello, being so focused on the red fruit.

Interestingly this pours just a little lighter at the core than the 2006 poured next to it, with notably less bricking. Overall a tad tighter than the relatively open 2006. The nose grudgingly waftsvery pure notes of dray hay, red cherries, red plum, and tar. The palate is lovely with elevated acid and medium tannin. Nice wine!

This pours lighter in color than the 06 and 07 poured next to it, fully transparent. The nose is difficult on this today showing notable reduction and green notes. Aromas of rubber, shrubby bushes, green tree leaves, red cherry, and plum round out the profile. Pleasant on it's own I'm sure, but on this night it was greatly outshone. The palate is more titanic than the 06 and 07 with noted astringency. Again a pleasant wine.

I really enjoy this profile. While some found it bretty and heavy handed, I enjoyed its traditional style. It pours notably darker than the three Fuligni wines poured earlier, yet with nice lightening toward the rim and a touch of bricking. The nose blasts notes of balsamic, salami, barnyard, dark cherry, plum, and forest floor. The palate is structured with excellent medium tannin and acid. Food friendly and poised to age well for years to come. Love it.
