Introduction

This was a beautiful day in the northwoods as three of us got after it. Perfect for fishing and wine.

Flight 1 (6 notes)

White - Sparkling
N.V. R. & L. Legras Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Brut France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
Light gold color. From half bottle. Drank this out fishing. Nothing like some bubbles to start the day on the lake. Crisp apple, apple peel, chalk, and yeast. Tasty as always. 90pts.

Medium strawberry color. Drank a glass or maybe two out on the lake. Pretty basic rose, spiced cherry and strawberry light minerality. Good.
White

Light medium gold color. Drank 2 glasses over an hour. Fantastic nose, earthy, briny, lime and citrus. The palate mirrors the nose with a complex mix of citrus notes, brine, earth, great cut, great dry extract and a touch of lemon oil on a long tangy finish. Geez these are fun.

2003 Fisher Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Coach Insignia USA, California, Napa Valley

Very dark red color with a clear 4mm meniscus. PNP, drank a glass plus over 2 hours. Nice leather notes up front on the nose, cassis, blackberry liqueur, and graphite. The palate reflects the age and vintage showing a more port like character at this point. Blackberry liqueur, full bodied, fading black fruits, leather, oak and some heat bleeding through on the mid and back end. This still holds up, but no doubt was better a few years ago This still has some dry tannins and comes off more rustic as the fruit has tapered off and fights the alcohol now. 14.8 ABV on label. 89+ to 90pts.
Red
2009 Château Prieuré-Lichine France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

Very dark red/purple color. PNP, from 375ml. Drank a glass plus over 2 hours. French oak, cassis, gravel and graphite on the nose. The palate is full bodied with such polished tannins, dark fruits, cassis, really plush and silky texture, gravel and a hint of anise. Very approachable now in this format.

Very dark red/purple color. PNP, from 375ml; drank 2 glasses over 2 hours. This was the surprise of the night and also my WOTN. The nose was open and filled with a perfume of wild violets, cassis and mulberry, and pencil. The palate is full bodied, poised, with silky tannins and a gorgeous core of cassis and dark berry fruit. The wood is already softening and everything comes together with balance and purity in this young LB. Frankly I'm pretty surprised how well this drank at this stage. No reason to hide these if you've got a few. This has got long term upside for sure. 93(+)pts.
