Introduction

All 6 wines were opened in the morning and siphoned into 6 x 4oz bottles. The bottles were distributed and the tasting held later that evening at 7:30 pm over Zoom. All wines were blind except for the one who provided the wines that current week. DR was up this week.

Flight 1 (2 notes)

White
2008 Domaine Ramonet Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Ruchottes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Drank blind next to the 2008 Ramonet Chassagne-Montrachet Les Vergers. Fantastic nose, showing a bit leaner but more focused than the Les Vergers tasted along side. Piercing lemon zest with tons of minerality and plenty of salinity along with a touch of fresh mint. A bit less intensity on the palate than the Vergers but this is so refreshing and crisp. Delicious and in a great spot right now.

Drank blind next to the 2008 Ramonet Chassagne-Montrachet Les Ruchottes. A bit fuller than the Les Ruchottes yet still lazer focused. Tart lemon, tangerine peel, with plenty of salinity. More depth on the palate with a nice spicy core on the finish and a touch of spearmint. At first this was tight and not giving a ton but as it sat in the glass the nose really opened up and became my clear favorite overall. Great tension and intensity and judging from this bottle just entering it's drinking window. A great flight to start the evening.

Flight 2 (2 notes)

Red
1983 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
Drank blind next to the 1983 Ducru-Beaucaillou. Outstanding nose exploding with cedar and graphite. This screams Pauillac right from the start. Leather, rich black current, and a touch of bell pepper. Softer on the palate yet still retains it's charm. Classic and elegant and exactly what I love about old Claret. A fantastic bottle that was firing on all cylinders tonight. No need to wait on these

Red
1983 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
Drank blind next to the 1983 Pichon Comtesse de Lalande. This bottle seemed a bit off right form the start with some VA notes but with some time showed it's charm lurking behind. Anise, mint, and rich cherry on the nose with more complexity on the palate. Cedar, graphite, black cherry with a hint of bell pepper coats the tongue. Overall this was enjoyable but as with a lot of the Ducru's I've had from the 80's they can be hit or miss. I'd love to try another bottle of this in the future to compare.

Flight 3 (2 notes)

Red
1994 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Mouline France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie
Drank blind next to the 1994 Guigal La Turque. There was something off about this bottle. VA, raisin, and some lactic notes dominated the nose. Better on the palate but still not reaching the heights I would have expected from this wine. Tart red berries with a spicy black pepper core. What a shame, especially since the the La Turque tasted along side was showing so well. Judgement reserved.

1994 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Turque France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie
Drank blind next to the 1994 Guigal La Mouline. This was on fire right out of the gate and took me straight to Cote-Rotie. Tons of florals and blue fruit with some gamey Syrah funk. Great concentration on the palate with rich blackberries and a touch of tar towards the finish. Exactly what you would hope for from an older Cote-Rotie. Still plenty of structure remain yet this was so delicious and drinking incredibly well on this night. Thanks to DR for sharing this, based on this bottle there's no rush on these as for my palate it's at the beginning of it's drinking window. But when it shows like this, why wait? My wine of the night.
