Red
2017 Dureuil-Janthial Rully Maizières France, Burgundy, Côte Chalonnaise, Rully
90 points
Light and elegant style, hint of earth on the nose, strawberries and raspberries, silky palate, slightly sweet cherries, floral notes, clean and fresh and wonderfully pure, mild tannins, delicately savoury, good length. Very approachable and quite delicious. Extra point for youthful charm.

2017 Domaine Roblet-Monnot Volnay Saint-Francois France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay
91 points
Elegant and silky style, pure and relaxed, well defined, lovely floral lift (roses) with a hint of spice, has a natural feel to it, good weight of ripe red berry fruit and characteristic Volnay nervosité, still a bit tight on the finish, but good to very good resonance and length. Stylish. I love the typicity here - it needs two to three years.
Red
2017 Fernand Lécheneaut et Fils (Philippe et Vincent) Nuits St. Georges France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges
91 points
The fruit expression in this fresh and energetic wine is a bit discrete at present but it is pure and has a pretty dark pitch, the tannins are polished but provide structure, there are earthy, mildly rustic notes (especially on the finish) and aromas of violets, the oak is noticeable but well judged, the finish is still a bit grippy but resonance and length are good. Well made. Needs a few years.

2016 Domaine Vigot Fabrice Vosne-Romanée La Colombiere France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée
92 points
From a lieu-dit just east of the village, made famous in recent years by the Comte Liger-Belair. The interpretation by Fabrice Vigot is quite impressive in a very individualistic way, it is such a shame that they lost the tenancy in 2017. The nose is pure and natural but also on the wild side, the blue-black fruit is ripe and clean and precise, the tannins are pretty grippy and not very refined, but they seem to fit this fresh and energetic wine, even though there is some back-end heat (14% ABV) on the finish. Not refined, but concentrated and certainly expressive of the terroir. There is potential here but it needs time.

2016 Aurelien Verdet Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
94 points
The house style at Verdet is always elegant and precise, and it shows to great effect in this wine. The terroir high up the hill is reflected in the cool and minerally core of the wine, the oak is only just noticeable, the complex aromas of fruit (ranging from peach to black cherry), flowers (roses and violets) and Asian spices are very pure and expressive, the palate is fresh and flowing and elegant, the tannins are finely chiselled, and resonance and length are exceptional. Beautifully made and already shining. Star quality.

2016 Domaine Michel Gros Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Clos des Réas France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
94 points
Last tasted 19 months ago and developing very well. The wine making at the estate relies on ripe fruit and a good dollop of toasty oak, and in a fresh and energetic vintage like 2016 this becomes the wine very well. Flowers and Asian spices, rich and layered fruit, good weight but not at the expense of precision, lovely terroir expression, warmth from the savoury oak, concentrated but transparent, seamless texture, finely grained tannins are ripe yet firm, excellent resonance and length. Still young, but starting to show its potential. A very fine Clos des Réas.

2017 Sylvain Morey Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Champs-Gain France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
92 points
Organic wine making. Creamy and rounded texture but with a very energetic, fresh and fiery structure, ripe fruit and savoury oak, floral lift and wonderful elegance, very good length. Not for long ageing. Drink now-2025.

2015 Domaine de la Bongran (Thevenet) Viré-Clessé Cuvée E. J. Thevenet France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Viré-Clessé
92 points
Weighty and full style with impressive floral lift, fresh and rich, aromatic green herbs and golden grapes, ripe citrus, unoaked, rounder than the wines from the Côte de Beaune which came before but not as complex, very good resonance and length.
