2004 Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru

Enjoyable red cherry throughout, clearly mature with a slightly under-ripe character but overall very easy to drink right now.

No surprise for a 2005, this is the best it has ever shown. Powerful and dense, but still showing too much tannin, this might still be hinting at its potential, but it is not 100% clear how/ where this will perfectly harmonize. Good now, probably (?) better 2025 forward.

Somewhat underwhelming, this showed plenty of bold, roasted black fruit, but didn't show the balance of balance that I recall from bottles when it was younger. Good enough.

Superbly elegant and bright red fruit throughout with good weight and good+ length. Like so many 2007s, this keeps getting better, even if it always seems to have no/ limited upside.

1993 Faiveley Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru

Brooding black fruit with a meaty character that I would more likely associate with Gevrey-Chambertin, but still reasonably fresh for its age (but that's 1993). Dense and sturdy, this is not subtle, but certainly enough to make this very enjoyable.

Bright red fruit throughout with good balance and length, just lacking in density and concentration vs the vintages I preferred tonight.

Ripe red and black cherry with good concentration and richness, while still easily balanced. Not the most complex vintage, but probably the most purely fun version. A vintage I have always liked of this wine, and tonight's bottle did not disappoint.

Mostly red cherry with some red berry and black cherry notes, this is easily the most complex and layered vintage tasted tonight, even if not the most concentrated. Very good tonight (tasted ~3 hours after opened and divided for virtual tasters), but clear upside from here. So much better vs last bottle tasted in 2019 (at the domaine), which was very reductive.

Certainly good, but this showed the richness of the vintage more than most else, and was lacking the level of dimension that the other vintages in that range provided.

2018 Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
My first time having this vintage, it certainly showcases 2018's ripeness, but also maintains good balance with sneaky structure in the near background. Not quite as bright as my favorite vintages, but that's tougher at the indicated 14.1% alcohol. I like the potential, 89-90 points, better 2023 forward.

1995 Château de Premeaux Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Clos des Argillières France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru

Dirty, highly structured AND past its peak.

Served alongside the 2005. Lighter fruit completely dominated by whole cluster character. Fully mature. 195 structure has nicely integrated and resolved, so this is enjoyable, even if unremarkable.

Served alongside the 1995. Also lots of whole cluster here, but in 2005 it supports the dense and powerful fruit, rather than dominating. This was firm and stubborn when tasted early in the evening (after open ~3 hours), then much better and harmonious when finished after open 6-7 hours. so plenty of upside from here.
