Introduction

Missing notes for 2019 Foillard Cote de Puy & 3.14, and 2014 Pascal Caillottes, sadly.

Flight 1 (5 notes)

White
2014 Hubert Lamy Bourgogne Blanc Les Chataigners France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc
No extensive notes, this opened up beautifully over 2 hours open. Started off with coiled-up citrus, marmalade, pear, and a touch of spice. Over time the palate opened up as well, a beautifully made Bourgogne blanc and typical testament to the quality of 2014's as well as the house's reputation.
White
2010 Didier Dagueneau Sancerre Le Mont Damné France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Sancerre
Immediately ready to drink. Ripe tropical fruit (lychee, some mango) with very little of the variety's trademark grassy quality. Didn't show any RS but the palate had great depth and weight and a certain kind of sweetness. Very good today, approaching plateau of maturity and a unique expression of the vineyard to be sure.
Red
1980 Domaine Bruno Clair Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru La Dominode France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru
Light Burgundy color and rim was watery, bottle had good ullage. The nose started off in beguiling fashion; first impression was "this smells like French onion soup." Not even kidding. Coffee, iron, blood, and a savory character of roasted onions and salt came through almost immediately. Medium acidity, palate lacked a bit of depth and fruit was mostly faded. Easily a decade over the hill but indeed still tasty today. (Cork had extensive streaks of dried black goop, possibly indicating this had dried out in less-than-ideal conditions sometime in the past.)
Red
2001 Henri Bonneau Châteauneuf-du-Pape France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Poured out a beautiful deep garnet color in the glass. Figs, purple plums, raspberry, herbs de provence (thyme stood out), with excellent acidity and ripeness in good check. Supple and engaging, the finish carried fruit and herbal flavors more than all others. This likely saw extended aging in very old foudre but as usual showed no signs of oxidation. Approaching plateau of maturity.
Red
2016 Ferrando Carema White Label (Etichetta Bianca) Italy, Piedmont, Northern Piedmont, Carema
Last bottle of the night opened very late and decanted, no extensive notes. Beautiful ethereal expression, light weight yet with great structure, mineral character, a welcome change of pace from all the French wines tonight.
