Introduction

67PM with a couple of friends where we got down to business to try the mammoth BTG list. All 25ml pours except the PYCM which I really wanted to try so got a decent portion.

Flight 1 (9 notes)

White
2013 Nicolas Joly Clos de la Coulée de Serrant France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Savennières-Coulée de Serrant
88 points
Very natural with a little reductiveness on the nose. Felt like it had some skin contact with a orange and grapefruit notes, screechy acid that I didn’t love. Think the others liked this more than me.
White
2011 Dönnhoff Hermannshöhle Riesling Großes Gewächs Germany, Nahe
88 points
Typical Riesling nose. Austere with a lack of fruit, but confusingly it had a round texture. Still don’t quite get GGs.
Red
2005 Château Montrose France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
Very old-school, especially next to the 2010 Lynch Bages. Some funk on the nose, the dark fruit was still rather tight and brooding. Quite unforgiving behind a wall of tannins at the moment, will hold off on my bottle for a while yet.

Red
2010 Château Lynch-Bages France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
Modern with ripe blue fruit and immense concentration. A confected sweetness on the finish.

2017 Domaine Bruno Clair Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
94 points
Previous notes suggested this wasn’t ready but this was showing quite differently. Brilliant nose of raspberries, a silky and elegant palate. Texturally very sensual and the red fruits showed wonderful purity. Clear favourite for everyone on the night, an exceptional wine.

Red
2013 Louis Jadot Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Boudots Domaine Gagey France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Suffered in comparison to the Clair. Similar red-fruited nose but structure seemed to be missing and a little dilute.
Red
2018 Benjamin Leroux Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens Hauts France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard 1er Cru
Wanted to do a comparison with the 2018 Volnay I tried earlier in the day and Pommard definitely managed better as mentioned by many reviewers. Still very 2018 but not disjointed.
Red
2014 Domaine Trapet Gevrey-Chambertin Ostrea France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
This domaine has been getting some hype recently but guess this was before the style change. Good typicity for Gevrey but not a particularly memorable wine. Towards the black-fruited end of the spectrum with high acidity.
White
2011 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Grandes Ruchottes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
92 points
Very impressive weight and concentration, yellow fruit of mostly lemons. Round texture and very good persistence, showing some signs of secondary development. Excellent for its level.
