White

Starting off the evening immensely well. This was showy to the extent of being flamboyant. Jasmine flowers, popcorn, yellow peaches, wax, lemn oil and starfruit dominating both bouquet and palate. Grand cru territory quite easily with the oak, density and length. Great level of precision with fine minerality and crisp acidity with a lengthy finish. Always wanted to try a Chartron Chevalier and it came from my favourite white vintage!

Red
2000 Domaine Leroy Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru

Right off the bat, easily the most haunting, sensual and perfumed bouquet I have ever bore witness to. Time stood still for a full minute. Simply sublime with macerated raspberries, five spice, dark cherries, cloves, sandalwood and dried luo han guo skin. Expansive palate showing great core of fruit with a sensual embrace - remarkably fresh for the 2000 vintage, with sweet spices, smoke with some mushrooms and ripe cranberries. Excellent finesse and volume culminating in a silky and graceful finish.

1999 Hubert Lignier Clos de la Roche France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru

This was rocking and rolling! Robust blue fruits with violets, dark roses, prunes, licorice, smoke, hoisin sauce and some slight chinese herbs. What shocked me was what ensued on the palate, showing ridiculously youthful with plenty of structure, detail, finesse and complexity with power and balance - drinking really brilliantly at this stage.

Guesses at the table were mostly 2009 with one guess from the early 2000s. It was clear that this was of pristine provenance and if I hadn't contributed this, I might certainly have just swung in the direction of the table and place this in 2009 or 2010. Interestingly, the striking bouquet points you towards the likes of a 20 year old barolo with dried flowers and pronounced roses. Palate however takes you home to burgundy.

Red
2017 Domaine Dujac Clos St. Denis France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos St. Denis Grand Cru
95 points
Lifted aromatics showing pure red fruit, almost candy cola cherries like with sweet raspberries, roses and a tinge of cinnamon. Palate incredible balanced with good weight and graceful silky tannins. Slightly stemmy which I suppose was telling of producer. Graceful and oh so delicious to drink at this stage although I would be keen to try this again in 15 years or so!

Most guesses ranged from 2012 to 2014 and when this was revealed it was surprising to learn that it was a 2017 and a CSD no less! Reminded me a little of the 2017 Mugnier Chambolle Musigny I had recently and was tempted to call it as that but this clearly had better length and panache I would expect of a grand cru plot.

2006 Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg Clos Vougeot France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru

Lifted and elegant bouquet with purity of red ripe fruit, dark plums, roses with a bit of earth. Palate showing off opulence amidst concentration. Great structure with density and weight with layers upon layers of red cherries, asian spices, licorice and slight kirsh. Velvety and silky tannins with great length and finesse! Love the style here and such a pleasure! Called 2006 Echezeaux after a table mate instantly called out MG!

Bouquet opens with roses, raspberries, 6 start hotel potpourri and some baking spices. Great structure with pretty red fruit with some spice and dark berries dominating the mid palate. Tannins starting to integrate but still very much present - would do well to revisit this in 5-7 years!
