Flight 1 - BLANC (4 notes)
Tasted the following whites together. All decanted for a couple of hours:
White
2012 Domaine Latour-Giraud Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières Cuvée des Pierre
86 points
Wine is out of balance - high on acid and low on fruit. Still enjoyable but was the weakest wine of the night. Ol’ Pierre didn’t add much on this night unfortunately . . .
White
2013 Domaine Latour-Giraud Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières
92 points
Big wine - almost the opposite of the 2012. Tropical fruit, leaning towards pineapple. This was not affectation, however. It was a very balanced wine with acid in check and some nice mineral notes. Maybe even a little peaty. Distant flint notes.
White
2014 Bouchard Père et Fils Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières Domaine
93 points
White WOTN. Huge nose of flint, mineral, petrol, pear and wood. Same on palate and such a long finish. Really enjoyed this wine. However, did seem to lose some of its steam over the drinking window (roughly an hour). With out this a solid 95, but 93 is probably fair.
Flight 2 - ROUGE (4 notes)
Red
2012 Joseph Drouhin Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
91 points
Wait on this wine. It has potential but it’s not there yet. Opened it on Day 1 and it was very reserved. Completely outclassed by a 2009 Drouhin Gevrey-Chambertin village. Pumped half the bottle and tried again on Day 4. It had much more character, with significant notes of cloves, cinnamon, and cherry - but it clearly still needs time. I think the potential is 93+ but it’s at least 5 years out.
Red
2009 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Romanée St. Vivant
U4. Don’t recall this being as strong as JVNK bottle but that may be bc it was it was first time had wine.
Red
2013 Louis Jadot Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuées
U2. Shut down or average. Would need to try another bottle to be sure.
