Introduction

Old world / new world

Flight 1 (1 note)

Smoked trout.
Fig and halloumi.

White - Sparkling
1995 Charles Heidsieck Champagne Blanc des Millénaires France, Champagne
Mid gold.
Guessing the disgorgement is around 2015/16.
Complex aromas - orchard fruits, nuts, lemon tart, toast and honey. Sublime palate. Harmonious, complex, pure. Minimal beading, but has a sort of gentle intensity about it. Drinking superbly tonight.

Flight 2 (2 notes)

Salmon, zucchini, tomato, burrata, basil

White
2016 Giaconda Chardonnay Estate Vineyard Australia, Victoria, North East, Beechworth
Screw cap.
Light gold appearance. Peach, tropical fruits, banana, hazelnut. Seemed a bit over-blown? Palate was rich with not much definition. Had its admirers around the table though.
White
2017 Domaine Buisson-Battault Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Mineral, wheat germ, lemon curd, chalk, saline. Fine, precise, pure. Drinks so well, but can easily hold.

Flight 3 (2 notes)

Twice cooked duck, bok choy.

Red
2013 Bell Hill Pinot Noir New Zealand, South Island, Canterbury
Screw cap. 13% alc.
Fruit forward on the nose - cherry, strawberry, plum. Medium intensity on the broad and juicy palate. Integrated tannins and decent length here. Well made.
Red
2012 Sylvain Cathiard Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Aux Murgers France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Earthy, black fruits, florals. Medium bodied. Complexities just starting to show. Savory flavours enhance the mineral streak. So nicely balanced. Intense and perfumed, but harmonious and long. A touch rustic and then totally silky. Delicious tonight.

Flight 4 (2 notes)

Aged wagyu eye fillet, duck fat potatoes, fatoush.

Red
2001 Cullen Wines Diana Madeline Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Australia, Western Australia, South West Australia, Margaret River
Cork. 14% alc.
Decanted 3 hours. Still holding a deep colour.
Black fruits, touch of cedar, very malty! Medium bodied with integrated tannins. Some dried herbs and tomato leaf. Opened out more in the glass and became less malty with time. Mocha and dark chocolate. Fully mature now.

Red
2003 Giuseppe Quintarelli Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Amarone della Valpolicella Classico
Cork. 16.5% alc.
Decanted 3 hours.
Lush and open. Ripe red and black fruits, leather, mocha and tar seamlessly enveloped in silky, integrated tannins. What a treat.

Flight 5 (2 notes)

Lemon drizzle cake.

White - Sweet/Dessert
2020 Kusuda Riesling Beerenauslese New Zealand, North Island, Wairarapa, Martinborough
Cork.
Glistening mid gold.
Spiced pear, botrytis, apricot, honey. Rich mouthfeel, with sweetness just barely counterbalanced with acid. Lush, generous. Youthful.

White - Off-dry
2007 Schmitges Erdener Treppchen Riesling Auslese * Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
Light to mid-gold.
Spiced citrus, pear, grapefruit, dried apricot, lemon peel. Balanced acidity. A refined mineral drive carries the palate to a long finish. Delicious.
