Flight 1 (3 notes)

Red
1964 Château Ausone France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
94 points
Iodine, Oysters, tobacco, malt, warm. Medium body, quite long
Red
1964 Château Margaux France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
I believe this wine, from nearly all bottles is, while still drinkable, substantially past its prime. Oxidative, beef stock, a hint of mint, slender. Little joy in drinking this
Red
1964 Château Mouton Rothschild France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
85 points
Chocolate, cool fruit, slender, slightly metallic.

Flight 2 (3 notes)

Red
1961 Château Pontet-Canet France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
94 points
Sous-bois, leather, tobacco, surprisingly young, medium bodied, good balance and nice length
Red
1961 Château Calon-Ségur France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
Dirty stables, leather, plums, iodine, medicinal, gets a bit better with air, but I feel this wasn't an ideal bottle (Thought it had a great level)
Red
1961 Château Lynch-Bages France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
97 points
Out of a pristine magnum, this was the best showing of this wine I ever was lucky to experience. Bread crust, elegant red fruit, espresso, mint, milk chocolate, perfectly mature deep and broad on the palate, finishing very long. One of the top three wines of the night

Flight 3 (3 notes)

Red
1960 Bodegas Vega-Sicilia Ribera del Duero Único Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero
92 points
After a couplle of bottles that were showing a bit off, finally a very clean and good bottle.

Grape jelly with mixed fruit, but a fairly simple nose, lacking complexity. Feels quite young with a light boddy and a VS-typical intense acidity.
Red
1965 Bodegas Vega-Sicilia Ribera del Duero Único Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero
96 points
Beautiful bootle. Dried bread, plums, espresso, caramel, coffee-yogurt, butter, good mouthfeel and enough fat in the palate to wrap around that elevated acidtiy. Unico at its best.
Red
1976 Heitz Cellar Cabernet Sauvignon Martha's Vineyard USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville
95 points
As usual a bit hazy starting out, it improved quite a bit with air but never really shook it off fully. But still a great wine. Rosehips, eucalyptus, honey, medicinal. Rather light for a Martha (still substantial of course) with a good length

Flight 4 (3 notes)

Red
1948 Château Palmer France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
88 points
Strawberries, red fruit, slender, rather short and elevated acidity. Decent, but not really a joy to drink.
Red
1948 Château Haut-Brion France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
flawed
Was decent to drink, but I suspect it was slightly corked
Red
1952 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Musigny Mise Drouhin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Musigny Grand Cru
98 points
Bread crust, toast, malt, caranel, multi-fruit-jam, beautiful texture in the nose, very long, very intense and very delicious!

Flight 5 (3 notes)

Red
1982 Château Ausone France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
flawed
Absolutely corked. Someone else said that this wine is always bad, and that the cork really doesn't make it any worse. I have no frame of reference, but Cellartracker seems to disagree with that statement
Red
1982 Château Cheval Blanc France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
flawed
Hazy cork, lots of potential hiding behind that. What a shame.
Red
1982 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
97 points
Consistently my favourite 1982 Bordeaux. Very young, dark fruit, cassism, blackberries. It posesses this Napa-Sexyness. Just plain delicious!

Flight 6 (3 notes)

White - Sweet/Dessert
1967 Château Climens France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Barsac
93 points
Blood orange, saffron, puff pastry, semi-baked puff pastry, coconut, multi-layered and quite long

White - Sweet/Dessert
1959 Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
92 points
Rubber, botrytis, caramel, candied sugar, saffron, burnt sugar. This has all the elements but for me it lacks a certain quality and punch to really excite me.
Red - Fortified
1963 Dow Porto Vintage Portugal, Douro, Porto
93 points
Fruit in rum, raisins, candied sugar, red berries, marinated mixed forest berries. Rather light not too sweet, this was quite enjoyable.

Flight 7 - Wines served there were not part of the tasting, but drank alongside (3 notes)

Red
1990 Château L'Eglise-Clinet France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
94 points
Out of an imperial, this was clean, red cherries, fresh black and blue fruit, a hint of mint and a perfectly harmonious body. Yes please!
Red
1928 Château Mouton Rothschild France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
From a magnum with a low level, we all knew that this would not be representative. Nearly no more body to the wine, walnut skin rather than fruit, but still drinkable.
Red
1950 Château Cheval Blanc France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Dense, overripe nose, dried figs, malt, espresso, slightly oxidative. Not an ideal bottle of this wine
