Introduction

Dinner last evening at the Ferry House in Princeton, NJ with friends. My dinner began with a chilled crabmeet and avacado cocktail and then a Roast Portobello Mushroom Bisque with Goat Cheese & Fried Leeks. My entree was Grilled Filet of Beef, BBQ Short Ribs & Wild Mushroom Salsa Truffle Mashed Potato; Red Wine Au Jus.

Flight 1 (1 note)

Red
2001 Quintessa USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford
We drank a 2001 Quintessa brought ny our friends. This California blend was ruby colored with a sweet bouquet of black currents and smokey licorice. This Bordeaux style wine was pleasant easy drinking.

Flight 2 (1 note)

Red
1978 Château Léoville Las Cases France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
90 points
We followed with the 1978 Leoville Las Cases- my last bottle and on my list of drink up in the next year wines. The wine had great color-ruby purple and had a classic flavor with earth and tobbaco balanced by ripe fruit. Medium to full body, it drank very smooth for a 1978 with no noticeable tannin. I felt it was past its prime, but still very enjoyable and should be drunk now and before 2010. I was surprised by the complexity, but felt the nose is the most complex aspect of this bottle. The flavor complemented the meal but did not help me remember the meal and wine together.

Flight 3 (1 note)

At the end of our meal, the owner, Susan, brought us a plate of cheese and fruit which we nibbled at while we drank our 2003 Guiraud.

White - Sweet/Dessert
2003 Château Guiraud France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
93 points
The Guiraud was silky -tasting of butter, vanilla, orange, and kiwi. The dessert wine had nice length with very light sugar.
