Introduction

Drank at Degrezia, NYC, with my friends-writer of the musical, The Wiz.

My dinner started with Pappardelle Siciliana and was followed whole bronzini spooned with a garlic butter and parsley sauce and de-boned at the table. The reds worked perfectly with the pasta and fish. No white necessary.

Flight 1 (2 notes)

Red
1978 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
92 points
The Ducru had a rich ruby color with no sign of amber. The strong bouquet of black current was laced with truffles. This medium bodied wine with balanced tannin drank smooth, soft and elegant. I was surprised at how pure this bottle showed and the quality of the fruit.
Red
1985 Château Cos d'Estournel France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
94 points
This 85 Cos exhibited more complexity than the 82 that I drank the week before at Panache in Ramsey, NJ. The wine gathered more nuance and character during the hour we leisurely drank it.The scent of black cherries wafted from the glass. The 85 had all the color purple of the 82 and then some.Tobacco, spice, and earth saturated this lovely scented and delicious wine. A classic Bordeaux on this evening.
