Introduction

Great tasting, and really enjoyed listening to Aldo Vacca talk about Piemonte.

Pretty nose, full of rinds and citrus. Fairly round body, with a steely finish, that is surprisingly long. Green apples, with a touch of pepper. Quite nice, but a little pricey in my market at over $20.

Enjoyable, pretty nose. Light to med. bodied. Rosy floral components, along with a cherry/raz fruit thing. Med+ acidity. Good food wine. Unfortunately, once again, priced rather prohibitively in my market.

2005 Elvio Cogno Barbera d'Alba Bricco dei Merli Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Barbera d'Alba

Beautiful, soaring aromatics. Some spices, and red fruits. Just a gorgeous nose for a barbera. The palate is similar to the nose, with great mouthwatering acidity. Lovely finish. A super barbera. Very enjoyable. Maybe not a super high scorer, but just so enjoyable.

light red color. Nice aromatics. Approachable, with solid fruit and the tannins and acidity withing reason. A great entry into the produttori world. 87-88

Retried, and much different experience than with last month. Pretty classic Barbaresco here, with a nice richness. Tannic, but not overy drying. Roses and cherries are the things that came to mind. Very nice. Can drink this now with a steak, but I'd want to give it a few years. 89-91

I think this is getting released this fall, but it is already bottled. Hugely tannic, and tough to get through. It's a good bottle, but not as seductive and full as the '04. People who like to battle through their wines should pick this. I'd rather go with the '04's though.

Flight 4 (1 note)

Red
2003 Damilano Barolo Lecinquevigne Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

Was a huge fan of this, mostly because of the combination of a good price and aproachability right now. This would be a great wine to buy while waiting for those '01 and '04's to come around. Not an amazing barolo nose, but full of classic profiles. Good mouthwatering balance, and the tannins are completely in balance already. Ripe and a bit simple, but quite enjoyable, and we can't find under $40 barolo's up here. 89-91

This was a rockin' and rollin' right now. Beautful nose, with plums and some shroomy/soy/earthy qualities dominating. So approachable right now. The tannins are in check, its just peaking, full of flavors and layers. Did I mention the nose. Terrific. I smelled this more then tasted it. My notes "That is barbaresco." On a side note on the subjectivity of palates, one of the more notable palates at the tasting though it was over the hill. Once again proving the axiom, "To each his own". If you're reading this on CT right now b/c you have some of these in inventory, POP ONE NOW!

Nose was slightly muted. Big, huge tannins. Hugely structured. This needs time to really show itself, but it's got everything it needs to shine. Give it 5. 91-92

Flight 6 (1 note)

White - Sparkling
2007 Marenco Moscato d'Asti Scrapona Italy, Piedmont, Asti, Moscato d'Asti

Good, but I would have liked a little more acidity. It's just slightly cloying. 85-86
