Flight 1 (2 notes)

White - Sparkling
2004 Taittinger Champagne Brut Millésimé France, Champagne
90 points
Deep straw with a slight bronze hue, and fine beads. Quite richly nutty, as if marzipan and chestnut on the nose, and a feel of zing. Soft mousse and soft acids, in fact pretty creamy, whilst with ripe, nearly dried apricot. Good feel about it, but seems to be a little straightforward
White - Sparkling
2004 Taittinger Champagne Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut France, Champagne
95 points
Pale lemon, silver hue, and starbright, eith fine beads. Very clean nose, with a touch of lemon zest, and almond, then the freshness of salad leaves and morning dew. Lively acids and a strongish mineral rocky feel on the palate, slight briny, and intense ripe lemon pulp and zest. Very lengthy, with the lemons and marzipan feels. Great!

Red
2004 Château Saint-Pierre France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
93 points
Deep inky garnet, with a slight purple hue especially one the edges. Nose dominated by a fresh cool green menthol and ripe blackberry, then slight barnyard. Bright acids while the tannins still providing a bit of bite, while having flavours of medium ripe blackberry and cherry. Very lengthy, and having waves of greens and fruits. Nice!

Red
2004 Château La Fleur de Boüard France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Lalande de Pomerol
90 points
Medium deep garnet core with browning fading edges. Aromas of blackberry, blueberry, and liquorice, as well as peppery cinnamon. Quite a chew from the tannins, with medium ripe blackberry, then pepper, nutmeg, some dried grass, and a hint of tar towards the back. Fairly lengthy

Flight 3 (2 notes)

Red
2004 Château La Confession France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
100 points
Deep inky garnet, with browning and fading edges. Very enticing aromas of ripe blackberry, dark florals, mint, and a hint of barnyard. Whilst a little tannic bite, it has largely softened, while acids still lively, and flavours of ripe blackberry, cherry, mint, violets, cocoa, coffee, and then starts showing a little bit of moss, fungals, and forest floor. Medium length. It's in fact lovely because it's at the best window now, but not to be aged much further

2004 Château Lafon-Rochet France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
89 points
Medium deep garnet with purple hue, and slight browning on edges. Somewhat muted nose with a bit of pepper, greens, and barnyard, then some minthly greens, while the fruits are struggling to emerge. Similar peppery barnyardy funk on the palate with chewy tannins and fresh acids, and some brine, minerals, dried grass, and underripe black cherry. It is lengthy, but much of the finish is spiced. May perhaps be better in a few years but I'm honestly not sure

Flight 4 (2 notes)

Red
2004 Château Léoville Poyferré France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
93 points
Deep inky ruby core, and some browning edges. Aromas of fresh cut grass, blackberry, plum, cloves, pepper, and somewhat meaty. Bright acids and some tannic bite, and the blackberry fruits seem to have a slight candied character, and within that emerges some rose petals, then fresh green leaves, then bites of peppercorn. Lengthy, and having the floral and fruit notes come back in waves. Nice!

Red
2004 Château Langoa Barton France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
91 points
Medium deep ruby, with violet purple hue. Fresh cut grass aromas, with blackberry and ripe cherry, and a hint of bandaid, then pepper and nutmeg. Quite intensely flavoured, whilst with some fairly resolved tannins, and lively acids, however it seems like the core is a little hollow, but flavours still classic of redcurrant and blackberry, and then some greens and spices. Medium length

Flight 5 (3 notes)

Red
2004 Château Montrose France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
91 points
Deep ruby, with visible fading and browning edges. Very earthy, barnyardy nose, and some greens. Similarly reductive on the palate whilst the tannins are chewy, then brine, hay, some red and black cherry and salad leaves. Really feel that this bottle will need more years to show its full potential

2004 Château Pape Clément France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
flawed
Deep inky ruby. Really very fruity on the nose, but seems to have been masked by a dank basement feel. The palate does have that fungal character along with ripe fruits. But have chosen not to rate this as it is indeed cork-tainted and not showing at its best
Red
2004 Château Lascombes France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
89 points
Medium deep garnet and a pinkish hue. A rather biscuitty, nutty, spicy nose, then a little underripe blackberry. Quite a bite of the tannins, whilst the flavours are similarly biscutty and spicy, whilst the fruits son't seem to emerge much, what with just a tart sour cherry feel
