Flight 1 - White to start (1 note)

White
2020 Domaine de Chassorney Saint-Romain Combe Bazin Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Romain
91 points
Pale yellow, and slightly cloudy, definitely unfined. Nutty almond, peas on the nose, with lemon zest, green asparagus stems, and nutmeg. Started off nutty and funky on the palate, but does show some bright lemon and white peach upon some breath, and also with some dried grass and haystack, then barley. Lengthy and persistent. Granted it's not exactly a style I fancy, I cannot deny that the winemaking, though avant-garde, ia actually pretty good

Flight 2 - Talbot (2 notes)

Red
2009 Château Talbot France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
92 points
Deep ruby. After a short one-hour bottle breathing it softens to a point it becomes palatable and expressive, with some dried prunes and ripe black cherry on both the nose and palate, and then with flavours of brine, rosemary, and liquorice. Fairly lengthy. Nice and ready to drink

Red
2010 Château Talbot France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
91 points
Deep ruby. Very tight and structured upfront, and with some ripe blackberry, and a strong sense of hay. A tannin structure that's very compelling, and with toasted nuts, molasses and cocoa flavours, then a deep liquorice feel. Persistent at the back, of tart blackberry, liquorice, and cinnamon. Nice now, but better with a few years of bottle ageing

Flight 3 - Lascombes (2 notes)

Red
2009 Château Lascombes France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
92 points
Deep ruby. Aromas of ripe red cherry, redcurrant, and hay. Quite some tannin structures which softened a little with breathing, with cherry and redcurrant flavours, as well as dill and fennel, then a bit of clove and nutmeg spices. A pretty good length. Well made wine! Best to have a few more years of ageing though
Red
2010 Château Lascombes France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
91 points
Deep ruby. Nose dominated by burnt hay even after some extended bottle-breathing, and some redcurrant. Tight and tannic, but then shows sour cherry and redcurrant, then some dried grass, smokes, and nutmeg. Quite persistent at the back though
