Introduction

Complimentary pairing with the pescatarian dinner.

Flight 1 (4 notes)

White
2020 von Winning Sauvignon Blanc I Germany, Pfalz
93 points
Nose: Lemon zest, ripe pears with deep earth, dry stone and hay. Light notes of dark honey too. Aromatic earthy notes add nice interest.

Palate: Deep and gently ripe pears, a light but firm spiced oak, earth and hay. Bitter, heavy minerals linger onto the finish. A bit oxidative in a good way, with a subtle hint of of a struck match. Kinda crazy how this almost has a bit of a dark Chardonnay profile. Must be the way the wine was treated.

The oxidative note also reminded me a bit of the kind I get from a Selosse.. what a tease.
Rosé
2022 Arnot-Roberts Rosé USA, California
86 points
Nose: White and pink florals, light grass and soils, sweet and light raspberries, and white gooseberries without any of that funk they usually have.

Palate: Bitter red flower petals, bitter light minerals in a low running creek, and subtle fresh fruits.

Lithe, bitter and floral. Don't expect too much.
White
2022 Domaine Les Aricoques Roussette de Savoie Pan! Le Blanc France, Savoie, Roussette de Savoie
87 points
Nose: Light and almost unripe stone fruits like peaches and unripe, crisp and crunchy white honeydew melon. Aromatic white flowers and clean minerals. Fresh cut starfruits surface with some food (asparagus).

Palate: Dry crisp pears, bitter minerals, and grass. Lithe on the palate. Didn't not work with the asparagus but wasn't a crazy pairing. Might just need more air; it was almost flat and unexciting.
Red
2022 Donnachadh Vineyard Gamay Donnachadh Vineyard USA, California, Central Coast, Sta. Rita Hills
94 points
Nose: Prickly spiced red flowers, nicely herbaceous, and notes as if you somehow managed to squeeze cranberry juice with your bare hands.

Palate: Dark and strict red cherries, I think the strictness comes from a touch of cranberries as well. Light and dried oak, soil and gently bitter minerals. The dark and nicely bitter cherries work well with the other notes. Almost carbonic but not too much, really riding that line. Great juiciness. Nice flare of dry and lightly spiced oak, it’s almost like a spark on the finish. One of the better gamays I’ve ever had. Quite tasty, both on its own and with some (steamed?) halibut. I want to get a few of these just for my non-wino friends. Wine of the night for me.

Closing

Didn't expect much from the wines but that gamay though.. incroyable.
