Flight 1 (5 notes)

Red
2001 Domenico Clerico Barolo Percristina Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

Leftovers from the previous night. Truffles, mushroom and raspberries on the opening, appearing albeit tired and on the cusp of giving up. Mulberries, tea leaves and roses dominate the palate. Fruit concentration is waning here with silky tannins. Bottle variation strikes again for I've had this before and this was not a good showing and representation of this bottle.
Red
2012 Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg Vosne-Romanée France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée
93 points
Tasted a few days after initial opening and was kept in a airtight bottle. Still so fresh and structured that I had this pegged for 2015/2016. Black plums, tree bark and earthy undertones leap at you before dark cherries, plums and hawthorn spice take over the palate. Great fruit concentration with a sturdyness that only seemed to softened after a few days. Fantastic and a really serious drink for a village!
Red
2001 Bruno Giacosa Barolo Riserva Le Rocche del Falletto di Serralunga d'Alba Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
90 points
Leftovers from the previous night. Unfortunately bottle variation has claimed another victim - came from same case but drastically different from the last I had it - no TNs posted the last time but back then it was hauntingly beautiful with red silky fruit, elegance, power and sensuality. This was just a little dull and boring.
Red
2001 Giacomo Conterno Barolo Riserva Monfortino Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
95 points
Leftovers from the previous night and still rocking and rolling! Bouquet opens with wet leaves, cherries, teak wood, cloves and sage. On the palate, blackberries, tar, licorice and rosewater. Incredible sense of elegance and precision here but definitely still a baby.
Red
2001 Elio Altare Barolo Vigneto Arborina Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
92 points
Leftovers from the previous night. Hauntingly youthful and fresh. Red silky fruit along with hawthorn and dark chocolate wafts on the opening while mulberries, tea leaves, truffle and roses dominate the palate. High concentration of fruit here with subtle acidity giving it the support it needs. Tannins have softened but still pretty sturdy. Not sure I like this though, felt a little too extracted for my preference.
