March 15, 2024 - The one with Tai Wah BCM: Leftovers from the previous night. Truffles, mushroom and raspberries on the opening, appearing albeit tired and on the cusp of giving up. Mulberries, tea leaves and roses dominate the palate. Fruit concentration is waning here with silky tannins. Bottle variation strikes again for I've had this before and this was not a good showing and representation of this bottle.

December 9, 2023 - Splendid. This is consistently one of our favorite wines, and this bottle has not shifted our opinion (even though it emerged from a very unfavorable storage). Still youthful, with tannins that make your mouth tingle, and with considerable acidity. The tannins persisted, becoming a bit clothy at the end, but the wine had a consistent intensity of high-toned, dark floral flavors so that it was exciting from the moment we opened the bottle.

July 23, 2023 - Dark oaky brooding nose, earth, coffee, menthol, flowers.
Lovely fresh coffee on the palate, then quite burly earthy, meaty and concentrated flavours but with enough freshness to prevent it being excessively heavy. Nice pure blue fruit behind. Big concentrated wine.
Finishes fresh but with chunky and somewhat drying tannins. Needs food.
Very good in the modern style and interesting to try but not really my thing.

September 18, 2021 - Brad's Belated Big 6-0 Birthday Celebration (Brad & Marcia's Place, St. Paul, MN): Dark red color. Double decanted for 2 hours and filtered through cheese cloth. I think this had the most sediment of any wine I've ever had - unbelievable really. The nose is the star here showing Black cherry, mint, cherry cough syrup, dried earth, cedarbox, rose hips, roasted meat, and celery seed. The palate does hold the same nuance as the nose. The fruit is dark and brooding and comes off on the port-like and almost stewy side. Baked blackcherry, plum, blackberry, dark chocolate, tar, wood and fine grained tannins. Love the nose, but I will take the purity of the Giacosa all day long.

May 17, 2020 - I Coravin’d and drank this gradually over two weeks. I learned that it needs a lot of air... as in 2 hours in the glass. Then it was quite wonderful, with very floral aromas and a balanced palate. It had tons of sediment, to the point where I used a sieve for the last couple of pours. A big, chewy wine but also balanced with nice acidity.
