Introduction

Great day strolling around among importers and (some) producers. Not really "flights" below but grouped in some order and according to some improvised themes.

Flight 1 - Giertz Vinimport (4 notes)

Comparison of Burgundies from Giertz, with the Vougeot as the clear winner and the CM as runner-up. The Les Grèves and Côtes de Nuits wasn't really up to par.

Red
2006 Jean-Claude Boisset Beaune 1er Cru Grèves France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru
Very young. Mineralic, and a bit low on fruit. OK length but this needs cellaring to be enjoyable.
Red
2006 Jean-Claude Boisset Chambolle-Musigny France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny
Great red fruit (strawberries and raspberries), lots of taste, open and round. Very likeable now.
Red
2006 Domaine de la Vougeraie Vougeot 1er Cru Les Cras France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vougeot 1er Cru
Powerful, full-bodied, elegant, dark berries. Excellent pinot spice and good length. Yummy.
White
2006 Jean-Claude Boisset Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits Blanc France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits
Over-oaked an unbalanced. Otherwise ok structure and length, high acidity. Might benefit from cellaring.

Flight 2 - Winepartners.se (4 notes)

A comparison of Riojas from Wineparners.se. The Albariño and lat 42 was two very positive surprises.

Red
2001 Torre de Oña Rioja lat 42 Gran Reserva Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alavesa, Rioja
Elegant, well structured and mature Gran Reserva. Dark fruit, wet leather, oak, bit of goat dung. At SEK79/8€ this is nothing but a bargain. Great value!
Red
2001 Barón de Oña Rioja Reserva Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alavesa, Rioja
Mature, good fruit, still high tannins, good acidity. Ok length. Good!
Red
1995 La Rioja Alta Rioja Gran Reserva 904 Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alta, Rioja
Elegant, lots of berry fruit, great structure and acidity. But... the smell of dill and old crayfish boilwater is just overwhelming. Almost a parody on the typical Rioja notes. If one's into that kind of stuff, this is a magnificent wine. For me - no thanks.
White
2007 Lagar de Cervera Albariño Rías Baixas Spain, Galicia, Rías Baixas
Aromatic with green, flowery notes and pear. Fresh and fruity, reminicent of a good Loire Sauvignon Blanc. Drink immediately.

Flight 3 - Oenoforos (1 note)

Random sips. Also tried 4 "homebrew" brands, "Escapades {Merlot, Cab, Shiraz, Pinotage}", all at some 24€ each. Merlot & Cab was in good, traditional french style with good structure and complex nose. The Shiraz & Pinotage didn't make it at all; burnt and sweet in a typically South-african way.

Red
2004 Orlando Abrigo Barbera d'Alba Superiore Mervisano Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Barbera d'Alba Superiore
Great structure, good tannins and acidity. Sweet fruit, powerful yet elegant. Very nice.

Flight 4 - VinUnic - Belgrave vs Catena Zapata Alta Cab (2 notes)

Maybe unfair comparison, but wanted to compare the Belgrave vs the Zapata Alta Cab. Hard to declare a winner, the Alta is a great wine but lacks the elegance of the Bdx.

Red
2005 Château Belgrave France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc
Full-bodied, powerful bdx. Quite warm, high on alcohol, high acidity, lots of typical west side taste, cedar, blackcurrant, tobacco. Extremely elegant compared to the Alta. 91p
Red
2004 Bodega Catena Zapata Cabernet Sauvignon Catena Alta Argentina, Mendoza
Concentrated, full-bodied cab with blackcurrant and some dill (!). Smooth yet lots and lots of tannins, lots of fruit, high acidity and long taste. Great wine - 92-93?

Flight 5 - Decent wines from Salming wine importer (3 notes)

Red
2005 Domaine St. Benoit Châteauneuf-du-Pape Grande Garde France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Warm Cd9 with lots of strawberries touching on marmelade/jam. More tannins and acid than actual taste - will probably benefit from calming down a couple of years.
Red
2006 Tenute Cisa Asinari dei Marchesi di Grésy Dolcetto d'Alba Monte Aribaldo Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Dolcetto d'Alba
Good structure, bit too sweet with cherry marmelade taste. Good wine at the $15 price tag.
Red
2004 Castello di Querceto / Querceto Chianti Classico Riserva Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG
Lovely Chianti with generous nose of cherries, stables, plums and oak. Elegant and very balanced. Very good.

Flight 6 - Carovin with representatives from Pago De Los Capellanes (4 notes)

Red
2006 Pago de los Capellanes Ribera del Duero Joven Roble Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero
Elegant with lots of fruit. Tried with the 2002, same impression from both vintages. Great value wine if you prefer a fruit-driven Rib.
Red
2005 Pago de los Capellanes Ribera del Duero Crianza Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero
Powerful with sweet fruit and low on acidity. Good tannins. I found this significantly less enjoyable than the 2002/2006 Jovens.
Red
2003 Pago de los Capellanes Ribera del Duero Parcela El Nogal Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero
Wow. Great fruit, awesome elegance and complexity. Full body and good length. 92-93p?
Red
2003 Pago de los Capellanes Ribera del Duero Reserva Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero
Great wine - lots of fruit, acidity, smooth but powerful tannins. Excellent, but SWE retail price SEK368/37€ I have my doubts re: price/performance. 92p?

Flight 7 - Carovin (2 notes)

Red
2006 Domaine du Colombier Crozes-Hermitage France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Crozes-Hermitage
Spicy CH with some stable smell. Liked this, round and smooth taste, drinks well now.
Red
2005 Faiveley Beaune 1er Cru Clos de l'Ecu France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru
Round, lovely PN nose. Complex with red berries, elegant. Soft tannins. Very high Wow-factor. Loved it. 92-93?

Flight 8 - Carovin with representatives from Ch Kefraya (3 notes)

Fun and generous tasting with representatives from Ch Kefraya. An impressive lineup - Kefraya shows that they make great wines at "all" price levels. The Ch Kefraya came out as our favourite - a wine with more personality than the CdM.

Red
2006 Château Kefraya Les Bretèches Lebanon, Bekaa Valley
Spicy, medium body, some elegance. Fruity, ok acidity and tannins. Nothing to write home about but ok.
Red
2003 Château Kefraya Lebanon, Bekaa Valley
Full-bodied, tannic, nice punch, fuity, good acidity, elegant. 50% new oak, shines through with oaky/wooden notes. Very good! Good qpr as well.
Red
2003 Château Kefraya Comte De M Lebanon, Bekaa Valley
Closed, complex nose with dark berries. Lovely smooth and powerful tannins, great round structure and concentration. Powerful and elegant. Maybe a bit bleak in the mid-end. Long aftertaste. Great wine.

Closing

What a great day.
