Flight 1 - The Burgs / Pinot (4 notes)

Red
1999 Nicolas Potel Volnay 1er Cru Les Mitans France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
flawed
Corked. :(
Red
2002 Nicolas Potel Bonnes Mares France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
92 points
Earth, spice, and strawberry on the nose. Flavors have good depth with lots of nice red fruit and a slight minty note towards the finish. Very very smooth and tasty but it still seems like there's a lot more waiting to reveal itself, given enough time.
Red
2007 Williams Selyem Pinot Noir Westside Road Neighbors USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
93 points
Delicious RRV Pinot Noir with all of the characteristics I've come to love from that region. Dark cherry, pine forest and spice notes on the nose and nearly perfect balance on the palate. Great length and finishes so smooth. Will probably be fantastic in several years but so tasty now, why wait?
Red
2002 Comte Armand Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Epeneaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard 1er Cru
90 points
Very tasty Pommard that's not overly heavy on the palate. Earthy cherry fruits with good acidity up front that gives way to a delicate finish that shows a hint of minerality. Easy to drink and enjoy.

Flight 2 - The Maybachs (2 notes)

Red
2005 Maybach Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Materium USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville
93 points
Dark, nearly opaque, purple red color. Lots or oak which, on the nose, comes across as a mix of chocolate, vanilla and coconut scents. This is a big wine on the palate but it's very nicely structured and is a pleasure to drink.
Red
2006 Maybach Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Materium USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville

Drank alongside the 05 Materium Cab and of the two, I think I preferred this one as it seems to have just a little more balance of fruit to oak. It's still a baby at this point and I would recommend decanting it for quite a while to really get the most out of it. Both the 05 and 06 are fantastic wines.

Flight 3 - The Stinky Syrah (1 note)

Red
2001 Cayuse Syrah En Cerise Vineyard USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Walla Walla Valley
89 points
This is very much a love it or hate it wine. I think a lot of people will have a really hard time getting past the nose on this wine. To put it simply, it stinks. It smells of horses, barnyard, and all those other things that make the farm funky. Fortunately, if you can get past that, it's really quite tasty. Full bodied with ripe plum flavors that have just a slightly hefty feel on the palate. Good finish.
