My father bought this out last night. It was a present from a neighbour and unknown provenance before it made it to dads wine fridge. Questionable given the ullage and slowly opened but only the top of the cork came out. Very slowly extracted the bottom half and decanted. Nose was showing definitely on the wane, a bit musty and muted. Left for an hour and it opened up a little but well past it’s prime

Breathe in bottle for 4 hours before drank at Rosina's (1st bottle was decanted and aired for 2 hrs. No difference). Nose: OK 7/10. Hints of wet stone or minerals. Palate: 7/10. Medium body. Balanced acidity/fruit/tannin. But bland. Finish: 7/10. Price: 4/10. Not worth it (paid $70 in 2023). Enjoyment: 7/10. Not memorable. Would buy again: Absolutely not. Not bad, not good either. But not worth buying.

9/9/23, 12:33 PM - I think it obvious your bottles had a problem, especially as you just bought a 17 year old wine. Look at the other 380 comments and ratings and your experience is the outlier. When my wine experience is poor and inconsistent with others' experiences, I don't leave a score, describe my experience, and add that I likely had a wine bottle that had some problem.

Weak showing for this wine. Popcorn aromatics, but color is creeping into orange. This bottle needs to be drunk. (02580/3524)

10/28/22, 5:44 PM - obviously a flawed wine so why score?

In a flight of 1982s. Delicious and more herbal than all of them. Noticeably so. Delicious.

    2/24/20, 2:55 PM - Score doesn't match comments--you may have meant 94 and not 54

Vini Rossi-L'Ultimo Piano (Asti Trattoria): Thrown into a flight of top Montepulciano d'Abruzzos to show the distinction of that varietal's namesake, this vineyard-designated Vino Nobile is quite good. Of course it is much lighter than the Mont d'Abs, but it has complex flavors and very good structure, and tied with an Edoardo Valentini wine for best in flight. Very ripe and balanced sangiovese here, the wine has a sweet nose and good acidity, is quite evolved with pronounced leather, dark fruit, cherry, some oak, and a smooth transition to the finish. A couple of tasters found some varnish and polish initially on the nose, but then they liked the balance and the fruit seemed to come through. Drinks well now.

10/9/19, 2:00 PM - If you had read our tasting "Vini Rossi" on our first of nine flights, it states "A look at top 9-10 year old Montepulciano d'Abruzzos......We threw in a top Vino Nobile di Montepulciano to shed light on a classic misnomer." It's a very definitive Italian red salon, with 30 MS, MW, certified somms, chefs, et al in attendance, with wine from 1961 onwards. Note a flight of merlot (Masserto, Messorio, Galatrona, Redigaffi) had a 98 Fleur de Gay added, one of only two fine Bordeauxs which is 100% a single varietal--meant for discussion because it is .....a salon. So that's why the Poliziano, a wonderful Montepulciano just not of the Abruzzo persuasion, to stimulate discussion.

Old stale. I missed its prime. Was not drinkable

12/15/18, 6:58 PM - I believe you had a flawed bottle (your description says just this), and as such should not score the wine. I've drunk a half dozen bottles of this wine the past two years and found all excellent, and likely at its prime now. Sorry I didn't post my notes here.

Funky nose; dirty; overly mature; bad fruit.

12/15/18, 6:45 PM - Shouldn't rate a flawed wine. Just need to look at the history of others' tasting notes to know that this was a bad bottle, the fault of winery, distributor, merchant, or personal cellar. The 78 point score brings down the overall rating of the wine by a couple of points. I have drunk six bottles of this plus a magnum of it and they were all excellent and corresponded to the others' positive tasting notes.

Drank at wine tasting against the 2006 Jadot Vosne Les Chaumes. We drank this first and it was nice and a solid pommard, however against the vosne it was beaten hands down. Still a nice wine 88 points

2/15/15, 3:47 PM - Unless you have a tasting note on your bottles, one posting is enough. All your 88 ratings just bias the wine to you and disallows others to have an equality with your view
