This bottle drank fine, meaning we enjoyed it but I did comment to my wife a few times over dinner as we worked through it that I thought the wine needed more energy, more acid and some structure. I only bought one bottle, and was glad to try it but not looking to replace it.

Great nose of dark cherries, sweet tobacco, herbs and espresso. Medium body with black cherry, blueberry, earth, mocha and cedar notes. Great berserkerday buy.

Very nice mature CA. Excellent balance, ample fruit without being over-the-top. All around delicious. This wine is likely at or near its peak. Drink in next 5 years. Fair pricing.

Forward flavors of candied red fruit. The wine was disjointed, with an unpleasant, artificial menthol note like Scope mouthwash. With a couple hours of air, the green note became darker, more like forrest floor, but it never became fully integrated with the fruit. Despite the 13.3% abv, there was a trace of heat on the finish. Overall this was an incredibly disappointing showing.

Ok. Not sure what the fuss is about, other than that this is much less offensive than most California syrahs/Aussie shirazes. Very thick and dark. Dark blue fruit, iodine, but, for me, lacking any of the elegance or nuance of a good N. Rhone.
