2014 Hervieux-Dumez Champagne Special Club Champagne Blend
Didn't record the specs on this wine but my recall is 50% Chard, then roughly equal parts PN and PM, sourced from a few villages within the Montagne, south and west of Reims. Dosage of around 7 g/l? This bottle drank fine, meaning we enjoyed it but I did comment to my wife a few times over dinner as we worked through it that I thought the wine needed more energy, more acid and some structure. I only bought one bottle, and was glad to try it but not looking to replace it.

10/22/19, 1:26 PM - FMIII I picked up a few bottles of the 2012 last year at the winery after we stayed in Sacy and loved it, one of the best of the trip. I have one left and just picked up a couple of the 2014 to try side by side.

2014 Bougetz Cellars Jovana Cabernet Franc/Merlot Mt. Veeder Red Bordeaux Blend
Great nose of dark cherries, sweet tobacco, herbs and espresso. Medium body with black cherry, blueberry, earth, mocha and cedar notes. Great berserkerday buy.

Very nice mature CA. Excellent balance, ample fruit without being over-the-top. All around delicious. This wine is likely at or near its peak. Drink in next 5 years. Fair pricing.

Forward flavors of candied red fruit. The wine was disjointed, with an unpleasant, artificial menthol note like Scope mouthwash. With a couple hours of air, the green note became darker, more like forrest floor, but it never became fully integrated with the fruit. Despite the 13.3% abv, there was a trace of heat on the finish. Overall this was an incredibly disappointing showing.

6/9/16, 1:06 PM - I take it this is the wine you are referencing on WB? I had it about 3.5-4 years ago and was underwhelmed ( as I have been with approx. 50% of my Rhys wines, I'm no longer purchasing them) but not to this point. I have 2 left maybe I will gift them to one of my wife's friends :)

Ok. Not sure what the fuss is about, other than that this is much less offensive than most California syrahs/Aussie shirazes. Very thick and dark. Dark blue fruit, iodine, but, for me, lacking any of the elegance or nuance of a good N. Rhone.

11/7/14, 6:33 PM - Glad you found a reason to bad mouth a whole region, being flavorless and light doesn't make a wine elegant and nuanced only European

1-1/2 hr decant. Expressive smokey ash, pepper and black fruit nose. Medium body similar to the nose that turns to more savory, meaty notes as it is open. moderate tannins with a medium plus soft finish. A yearly purchase for me and a very good value.

6/27/13, 12:00 PM - Not sure about the aging it's a little lighter than the 08 but still seems to have plenty of structure. Whether it improves is probably more a matter of taste. Cheers :)

1 hr decant. Expressive nose of dark fruits, vanilla and sandalwood. Deep silky palate of blackberry pie, spicy oak and pipe tobacco. Moderate tannins and a long smooth finish. Not for the AFWE or oak averse, but wonderfully balanced for my palate.
