I was really curious as how this is showing compare to a year ago. Pop and pour, incredible pure expressive nose displaying crushed blackberry, strawberry, dry cherry, a hint of VA, licorice, mineral, coffee and dark spices. Just incredibly refine and polished palate, strong presence of iron driven mineral, ripe licorice and strawberry driven palate impression, incredible sweet silky tannins which is incredibly sensual, bright acidity and seamless noble finish that resonates. Drank over a three nights and with air, it started to show a bit more VA, also tar and strong presence of iron. The palate starts to show more iron and acidity. The tannins become much more noticeable but not bothersome. So refined, pure and polished. It is also structured to age. Antonio seems to love Rinaldi and I can totally relate to that. One of the greatest value out there, relatively speaking of course.

The approach to this wine, was decanted 2 hours and still felt young. The second attempt the bottle was decanted for 6+ hours, and it could have gone longer.

The vanilla overwhelms the wine, while it has some great fruit notes of blackberries and currants, with some cassis and spice, the vanilla just crushes most of the mid palate and finish. There are some hints of chocolate. It’s not the artificial Caymus vanilla, much more natural. The wine reminds me of a vanilla and chocolate swirl cone dipped in sour blackberry jam. Some people will like that, it’s not for me. I’m hoping with age because of the youth some of the vanilla will subside, and it will mature into something better.

1/16/23, 12:37 PM - I don't think I'm a fan of the over-the-top vanilla, fighting the hints of chocolate. I'm not saying it's not well-made wine, the quality of the wine is impressive for the price. I've never been a fan of vanilla in red wine as that favor imparted from the oak treatment. I hope the vanilla will reduce over time and the other lovely characteristics bubble up. That is the great thing about buying a case, drink a few bottles now and try again to drink some in 5-8 years. And if it doesn't make it, it will become a great wine gift.

Excellent Riesling, hints of sweet with acidity, balanced and complex.

Honeysuckle, green apple, mineralogy, acidity, finishes with some pineapple and a touch of lemon. Very complex and aged beautifully. A

7/28/22, 12:53 PM - i had it with grilled octopus it brought out the char in the octopus, which was lovely. With the scallops and risotto, brought out the sweetness of the scallops. While it’s a little bit of sweet, i won’t pair it with overly spicey food as it would overwhelm the flavors of the wine. It would pair well with seafood.

Dark fruit, full mouthful of tobacco and spice. Secondary nuisances just starting to develop. Smokey oak on the finish. Nice length on the finish. It well balance and complex.

Black fruit, red fruit, asian tea, cooa, spice, pepper, tannins on the finish, hints of eucayptus, complexity, hugh backbone, great lengh on the finish. A+ (97-98)

10/17/16, 9:34 AM - The 2012 are a drink now or later wine. Personally they are fantastic now, but will be in their prime in 2018 - 2025. The 2013 needs some serious decanting, their prime will 2020 - 2035. The 2013 are a slightly better wine and will age well for the next 30 years. The 2012 will collapse sooner and not age as graceful.

Oh what a disappointment. Not that I was expecting greatness but this wine was undrinkable for me. A heavy nose of urinal cake, dirty urinal cake that did not blow off even after 3 hours. The nose overpowered everything else this wine could muster up. Hope it worked as a drain cleaner. It made the 2007 Perrin and Fils Cotes du Rhone Reserve I opened in its' place taste downright collectible. After enjoying Graton Ridge's Estate Pinot Noir I was really looking forward to their PS. Buyer beware.
