This was excellent tonight almost immediately after opening with rich, penetrating, red fruit and earthy, sous bois notes. Quite nice and drinking well right now, although, I don’t think there’s any hurry at all here.

Delightful tonight with an abundance of cool green and stone fruit with a subtle baking spice undertone. Drinking beautifully with an hour or so of air, but was really pretty on day two.

As usual, this is a delightful Charmes with soft, delicate, penetrating red fruit with abundant earthy, sous bois notes and perhaps some very subtle hints of tar. This was drinking really well almost immediately after opening.

This was delightful tonight with surprisingly forward dark fruit. There’s still abit of unresolved structure here, but it’s balanced and not particularly obtrusive. All in all, quite nice.

It’s been quite a few years since I last tasted this wine. Back then then the tannins were dominant and quite aggressive, today, the tannins are still dominant, but they’re also much closer to being in balance with the rich dark fruit. However, the fruit is starting to show some stewy notes that, when they become abundant, I don’t prefer. All in all, quite nice, but I suspect I should have drunk this last bottle 2 or 3 years ago.

Very forward dark red fruit that’s starting to turn the corner on being to stewy for my liking. Glad it’s my last bottle.

Lots of lean, cool, green fruit, some floral notes, hints of baking spice(mostly nutmeg), firm minerality and very subtle grassy undertones, all of which is framed in unobtrusive oak. Very nice.

Drinking beautifully tonight almost immediately after opening with lots of mineral driven cool green fruit that has surprising depth for its level. The overall mouthfeel has softened a bit but the acidic core is still brisk and lively. Overall, a delightful bottle of wine with a really goof qpr.

This has evolved quite a bit since I last tasted it and was drinking well almost immediately after opening with subtle bricking throughout. The pretty, fairly delicate, earthy red fruit has exemplary depth and concentration for its level. Quite delicious.

Completely closed on opening and needed about 1 1/2 hours of double decanting to open, then was displaying dark, earthy cassis flavors with sanguine undertones. Quite nice now with a little air, but perhaps another year or two in the bottle is in order.

I have to say, I’m not usually a Kongsgaard fan, or for that matter, any of the big, oaky Cali chards, but today I found this bottle to be extraordinary! There was a surprising amount of depth and complexity that was uplifted by the oak, rather than being overpowered by it. All in all, a surprisingly delicious bottle of wine. As for qpr, well, this is a perfect example of a “price of admission” wine. If you want to taste it, you have to pay the price of admission.

While drinking well almost immediately after opening, this really blossomed after 45 minutes to an hour of air, displaying pretty dark red, earthy fruit with lots of peppery baking spice undertones and a long, albeit, slightly tannic, finish. There’s very good depth and concentration here, and to my tastes, this is in a really good place right now with just abit of air, but there also doesn’t seem to be any hurry to drink this one up.

Nice, but turning the corner on slightly stewy notes, which I don’t prefer. My last bottle, but if I had more I’d drink them up now.

My last bottle and drinking beautifully!!! Cool, crisp orchard fruit with firm minerality and a bracing acidic core that has softened ever so slightly from the previous bottle I tasted. Really nice and a very reasonable qpr.

Needed a couple of hours of air to get past the bretty funk that was present on opening, but then this was all dark red, earthy, masculine fruit with Asian spice undertones and some subtle sanguine notes lurking in the background. Really good depth and concentration for it’s level and drinking well a few hours after opening. To my tastes, this is in a good place right now with a fairly long life ahead of it. I wonder if it’s time to go back and
revisit the dark, brooding 05?

Double decanted for about 1 1/2 hours and was still abit on the tight side but still exhibited lots of dark, penetrating, earthy blue and black fruit with tobacco undertones and a firm tannic core. This was my last bottle, and while it was quite nice, I think I should have waited a few more years to give the tannins time to integrate a little better. I guess a lot of these 05’s are still babies.

What a nice Village Vosne that was drinking beautifully after about an hour of air. The aromas of dark black and blue fruit are mixed with notes of earthy Vosne spice. The palate is all rich, penetrating dark fruit that initially wants to lean toward the rustic side, but then brightens considerably on the mid palate. There’s lots of sous bois and Asian spice undertones. This is drinking really well tonight.

This was extraordinary tonight after a couple of hours of air with an abundance of rich, penetrating and a bit forward, dark red and blue fruit, subtle violet undertones and a hint of the sauvage lurking in the background. The finish is long and satisfying with just the tiniest bit of unresolved chalky tannins. All in all, this was delightful, and while drinking really well right now, there doesn’t seem to be any indication of the need to hurry this one.

This is a massive Grange that’s still very youthful. It’s been a year and half since my last bottle of the 96 Grange and after reading my last tasting notes, I feel that this bottle is consistent with that one, so I’m just going to copy and paste my last note:

Its been about 6 years since I last tasted the 96 Grange and I have to say that, although it seems to be just a baby( or perhaps a child that's just approaching adolescence,) its maturing beautifully. Opaque, impenetrable purple with a cherry rim. The nose is very expressive with abundant dark fruit, cedar, pencil shavings, tobacco and leather. The palate is rich and unctuous with penetrating blackberry flavors with a core of blueberries and mirrors all the aromas from the nose. The tannins on the long finish are fairly chalky, but well integrated and not at all obtrusive. All in all, an extraordinary Grange.

My last bottle and this one was drinking beautifully! After reading my last notes from about a year ago, I was afraid the stewed notes would dominate this bottle(which I don’t prefer), but to my pleasant surprise, they were in perfect harmony with the earthy, garriquey, cherry fruit roll up flavors with supporting pipe tobacco, floral and white pepper undertones. Drinking well very shortly after opening.

This was delightful tonight, but it needed about 2 hours of air before it began to shine. Immediately after opening, it was very tight with earthy, mushroom compost flavors dominating. After about an hour, pretty floral notes made an appearance. Two hours later the soft, darkish red fruit joined the party and they all combined to make an elegant, mature Bordeaux that was drinking beautifully! There’s still the tiniest bit of chalk on the finish, but to my tastes, this is in a really good place right now. I think I’ll drink my last two bottles in the next year or two.
