Very pretty nose of red cherry with some floral undertones and a hint of Asian spice, all which follow thru to the palate where the dark red fruit is rich and penetrating and has a firm minerality at its core. The tannins on the mid length finish are still abit on the firmish side, but overall, this was delightful after an hour or so of air.

This is a delightful village Volnay with good depth and concentration for its level to its earthy, red fruit. There’s firm minerality, sous bois undertones, a bright acidic core and firmish chalky tannins on the mid length finish. This needed a couple of hours in the decanter to open. Quite nice.

This was really nice tonight with an abundance of light, delicate, almost lacey, red and blue fruit that showed really good depth and concentration despite its light bodied mouthfeel. Firm minerality and sous bois undertones finish this one off. What a delight for a village level burgundy.

Consistent with my last note except that I think I was abit too generous comparing this to Grand Cru Burgundy and while still very Burgundian in style, I think it more appropriately compares to a good village level or 1er cru. Quite nice.

This bottle seems to be past its prime, it was a little dilute and flat tasting

Abit on the rustic side with earthy, minerally, reserved, dark red fruit and slightly firmish tannins on the mid length finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and there’s reasonable depth and concentration here for a village level Vosne.

Very nice and drinking well shortly after opening with pretty green orchard fruit, some floral notes, abit of nutmeg, some minerality and acidity at its core. Perhaps just abit too much oak for my tastes, but still a delight.

Nice enough, but tonight this bottle was just a little dilute and perhaps abit less interesting than I remembered from previous bottles.

Drank side by side with the Monthelie Blanc and it was stylistically very similar, but less. Less concentration, less depth, less minerality and less acidity, but delightful none the less. The following is the Monthelie review copied and pasted.

“Quite nice with lots of cool green orchard fruit, some stone fruit, firm minerality, abit of baking spice and a core of mouthwatering acidity. The oak treatment is perhaps the tiniest bit much for my tastes, but otherwise a delight with an excellent qpr.”

My first taste of this Domaine and I have to say that I’m quite impressed. This is a traditionally styled Burgundy that needed about 2-3 hours of air to open, then it displayed deep, dark, earthy and minerally red fruit with sous bois and sanguine undertones. The tannins are still abit on the chalky side and the finish is mid length to longish. The qpr is exceptional. It’s nice to still be able to find a wine like this that’s still affordable!!

This was drinking really well tonight very shortly after opening with lots of penetrating, cool red and blue fruit, firm minerality, earthy sous bois notes, just a hint of Asian spice and barely chalky tannins on the long finish. While I suspect that this has a long life ahead of it, to my tastes this is smack dab in the middle of its sweet spot. What a delight!

This was drinking beautifully tonight after about an hour of air with excellent depth and concentration to its spicy, dark red and blue fruit, garrigue undertones and firm minerality. There’s also some subtle aromas of pipe tobacco. This was full bodied and had a long, satisfying finish. The tannins are fully integrated. What a delight!

Drinking well tonight after an hour or so of air with lots of dark red and black fruit and garrique. Deep and rich with some stewy nuances that have yet to turn the corner to unpleasant. To my tastes, this is fully mature and is at the tail end of its sweet spot.

This was delightful tonight with lots of rich, cool green orchard fruit, a hint of nutmeg, some minerality and a core of bright acidity. There’s good depth and concentration here and the mouthfeel is on the midweight side. The finish is fairly long, all in all, this was quite a delight tonight. My experience with white Pinot Noir has been that they are typically enjoyable but very overpriced, this one however, seems very fairly priced to me. I’m going to see if I can get anymore.

Over the past decade or so, my experiences with Boillot’s whites, especially his upper level whites, has been very hit or miss, with an inordinately high number of premoxed bottles compared to other producers, but when they’re good, they’re usually very good. Tonight, I got a good bottle, as a matter of fact, it was an extraordinary bottle with excellent depth, concentration and nuance to the rich, penetrating orchard fruit, flinty minerality and mouth watering acidity. The mouthfeel was full bodied and unctuous, the finish long and satisfying. What a delight and what a relief, my hand trembles every time I reach for a Boillot blanc in anticipation of another bad bottle, but not today!

This was drinking well tonight after about an hour of double decanting with an abundance rich, dark blue and black fruit, firm minerality, some pipe tobacco and leathery undertones and firmish, but well integrated, tannins on the mid length finish. There’s good depth and nuance here for its price point. All in all, quite nice.

While still abit young and forward, this was delightful tonight with lots of rich red fruit, earthy sous bois and some chalky tannins on the longish finish. There’s really good depth and concentration here for its level and while I suspect that this has a very long life ahead of it, it’s really delightful now in its youthful exuberance.

This has reached the stage where there is a predominance of stewed fruits, which, as a rule, I don’t prefer, but I recently tasted a 1989 Beaucastel that had matured past the stewed fruit stage and had become delightful again, so perhaps this bottle just needed another couple of decades of bottle age.

Costco regularly surprises me with the quality of the wines it bottles under its Kirkland label and this wine is no exception because this is a surprisingly good $7 bottle of wine! This could easily be an everyday house red with its exceptional qpr.

This was delightful tonight with lots of green orchard fruit, bright acidity and firm minerality at its core. Although this is on the youngish side, there’s good, but not great, depth and concentration here, which I suspect will improve with some time in the bottle, unfortunately, since I’ve been burned a very many times by premox in Boillot’s white, I will in all likelihood try to finish my case of this wine in the next year or two. None the less, this was a pleasure to drink tonight!!

Abit youthful and forward, but drinking well tonight with an abundance of pretty dark red fruit and slightly brambly undertones. There’s good concentration now, but depth and nuance are slightly lacking, however, I suspect the complexity will flesh out over time. Really nice tonight with a lot of forward looking potential.

This was drinking beautifully tonight shortly after opening with lots of really pretty red fruit, earthy sous bois notes and firm minerality, all with good depth and concentration for a village Chambolle. The tannins on the mid length finish are fine and still abit on the chalky side, but well integrated and not at all intrusive.

My last bottle and it’s drinking extraordinarily well tonight with just abit of air after double decanting and surprisingly, after reading my previous notes from 2014 and 2018, I find that it is still drinking consistently with those previous notes, so I’m going to copy and paste again.

“Still going strong and so consistent with the note I wrote 4 years ago that I'm going to copy and paste it:

"Extraordinary!! Opaque, inky, tooth staining purple with dense, rich, unctuous cassis, leather, tobacco, loamy earth, spice and chalky tannins on the long, satisfying finish. Drinking beautifully tonight with just abit of double decanting. This is in a good place, but it is a full throttle Aussie Shiraz that's not for the timid."”

Consistent with my last note(3-30-23), the dark red fruit notes remind me cherry fruit rollups and haven’t yet turned the corner on being overly stewy, which I find off putting, so I think I’ll probably drink up my last bottle in the nearish future. Quite nice!

Really nice tonight and drinking well after just abit of air with deep, rich stone fruits , floral notes, some baking spice(mostly nutmeg) and some bright acidity and minerality at its core. Boillot’s Pulignys are sometimes oakier than I prefer, but this bottle had a judicious application of oak that was just right and if it doesn’t premox, i think that this will only improve with age. Delightful!

Well, my first taste of Bindi’s wines and I have to say that it wasn’t at all what I expected from an Aussie wine. This wine was light on the palate with rich, but delicate, earthy red fruit, sous bois and mushroom composte undertones and good minerality at its core. If I didn’t know what I was drinking I would have guessed 1er or Grand Cru burgundy, probably a Chambolle. What a delightful surprise! I should have bought more.

I was afraid this might be abit on the youngish side to open, but while certainly youthful, it was a delight after about 1 1/2 hours of air with an abundance of exuberant red fruit, subtle sous bois and Asian spice notes. This has a mid weight mouthfeel and a mid length finish that ends rather abruptly. The tannins on the finish are already fairly well integrated. This is delightful to drink right now and I’m curious to see how it develops as some tertiary flavors come to the forefront.

I haven’t tasted this for a couple of years and it has rounded out nicely. This is a medium bodied wine with darkish red fruit, Asian spice and sous bois notes. While the mouthfeel is on the softish side, the tannins are still abit firm. While delightful and quite delicious, I was hoping for abit more depth and complexity.

It’s been several years since I last tasted this wine and to my tastes, it has plateaued. It has a mid weight mouthfeel and there’s still plenty of earthy, fairly rustic red fruit, baking spice notes and Asian spice undertones. The tannins on the mid length finish are still fairly chalky and firm. This bottle seems to be abit flat compared to previous bottles, perhaps bottle variation, we’ll see. I have 1 bottle left and will let it lie for awhile

This is drinking really well tonight almost immediately after opening with rich, rustic, garrigue laden Kirsch, tobacco and leather undertones. The mouthfeel is full bodied and unctuous with firmish tannins on the mid length to long finish. After reading my previous notes, I feel that this has plateaued for the time being, but what a delight.
