4/25/24, 10:16 PM - I am glad you liked the wine. If it is indeed from 2017, it is a blend from Ishi Pishi Ranch. My first Pinot pet Nat is the newly released 2023 from Ronda’s vineyard.
6/11/21, 11:50 AM - Hi. Andrew from Briceland here. If you'd like to work out how to get made right for the bad bottle, please reach out by email: andrew@bricelandvineyards or phone: 707 923-2429I hope that it does not leave you with a bad impression.
6/6/21, 10:23 PM - Glad you liked the wine. This is an unusual wine for sure. I has ML, but no oak. It is both leesy and fruity. I like it too!
10/8/20, 11:09 PM - The wine goes well with meat. Steak in particular. Once the meat is gone, I find the tannins to be a bit assertive.
3/15/20, 9:50 AM - I am glad you enjoyed it. Regarding viongnier, actually, no. There is about 2% Gewurtztraminer though.
3/16/20, 1:51 PM - Well... I like your descriptors. I use pear skin and almond extract, but yours sounds better. Sometimes I think hazelnuts.
3/6/20, 11:33 AM - I am still learning myself about aged Pinots, but I wonder how many more of these you have... It might be of interest to see how it shows in a few more years. I have had a couple at 15+ years that have been very nice.
1/4/20, 11:28 PM - Hi. It appears that your box was mistakenly packed with a Mendocino Syah rather than the Humboldt version. The Mendocino is much fruitier, and frankly, less distinctive than the Humboldt. We hope that when you head north we can host for tasting.
12/25/19, 10:31 PM - Glad you liked it. It is one of my favs as of late.
7/1/19, 9:35 PM - Yes. Dark Horse is quite different from Ishi Pishi year after year.
5/19/19, 10:11 AM - I agree that it needs time, but I find it more red than previous vintages.
5/20/19, 4:57 PM - In general, if we compare apples to apples ie. same vintage at the same time, typically Phelps is more tannic and has more straight forward fruit, but accented with complexity notes. Normally, Phelps needs more time to be ready to drink than Ronda's. Ronda's typically has a bit more acid, less tannin and complexity notes accented by fruit. The 15 vintage is an outlier and may take longer than usual to develop as part of the vineyard was picked less ripe than usual.
5/20/19, 5:27 PM - z_willus_d,I am interested in your impression of that wine. It is in a different lane than the other two you have tasted.
9/11/18, 8:41 PM - Whenever I send you wine next I’ll include one of these. I enjoy your notes.
10/11/17, 7:45 PM - So, did aging it a few weeks make the difference? Ha!
1/15/17, 4:22 PM - Thanks for posting your note. There is no oak, but the wine is through ML. This has become our house style since this vintage. Based on that, you can assume that I was happy with the vintage. it was also our first year working with fruit from Ishi Pishi Ranch. That vineyard is now an important part of our program.
12/8/16, 9:01 PM - I see that you got a flawed bottle of Merlot. Sorry about that. Can I offer you a credit on a future order? (Assuming you've like the wines) That wine is sold out, or I'd offer to replace the same wine. Or, I can compensate you in some other way. I can be reached at Andrew@bricelandvineyards.com or 707 9232429Cheers!
6/7/16, 2:36 PM - Hi Tom,I am sorry to hear that it did not show well for you. I have not opened on of those for a while. It never seemed overly Oaky to me before, but it is a pretty rich wine by Humboldt standards. My previous tastes of it have shown pretty big tannin for a PN and medium fruit and some earthiness. I will open one soon and give you my observations. If you want me to replace it, or get you something else, let me know. Andrew@bricelandvineyards.com
2/29/16, 9:39 AM - I am glad you enjoyed this one. I agree that it is similar in character to some other more southern sites. I look forward to your comments on the other PNs. Thanks for posting!
2/29/16, 9:28 AM - You are correct on the no oak. This wine was all stainless in old Coke drums which keeps the lees close to the wine. It has been through ML but with a low diacetyl strain so it has imparted texture, softened the acid but has not imparted more than a hint of lactic flavor. If I judge by what is in my recycle bin, this is a very highly rated wine.
2/25/16, 6:05 PM - Yes, this wine has evolved over the last year in bottle. I am surprised by how it has "put on weight". I used to find myself explaining the color, but it is much darker now than it was.
2/12/16, 9:56 PM - I agree that the wine is a little tight on opening at the moment. Thanks for your note. I am glad you enjoyed it. This is one of my favorites from what I think is my favorite vineyard. I think the 14 Humboldt County might be your roast chicken wine, FYI.
12/21/15, 11:06 PM - Hi Diananm.I am the winemaker at Briceland, Andrew Morris. I am sorry to hear that you did not enjoy the Ronda's 2012. I would offer to replace it with the same wine, but it is long gone. If you feel that the bottle was flawed, I'd be happy to offer you a different PN as a replacement. I can be reached at: Andrew@bricelandvineyards.com
11/3/15, 8:18 AM - Thanks for posting. Nice to hear you liked the wine. The 2012 is gone, but 2013 is newly released. Same vineyard, and similar in many ways, but leans a little more towards red fruit, a bit more acid and slightly lower alc.
10/14/15, 9:22 PM - Hi Corey.I am glad you liked the wine. It was just bottled 3 weeks ago, so I expect it to collect itself and put on weight as you say. Although I think it has crowd pleasing appeal, it is more nuanced, lower in alc. and brighter than the '12 from the same vineyard. At least that is my view.
6/15/15, 8:42 PM - Hi, Andrew Morris, Winemaker at Briceland Vineyards here. Thanks for posting. I am relieved that people are enjoying this wine. I really like it, but it seems to me to be out in left field for what civilians will expect from a Zin.
6/7/15, 9:24 AM - HI Mike.Glad you like that one. We are very pleased with it. Over the last few batches we have been inching our dosage down. This one is .6, less than half of what most people offer as Brut. I think it highlights the aromas better to have lower sugar. It was 3.5 years on lees, which I think is more than most.
3/20/15, 3:52 PM - I am glad you enjoyed it. I love the site the Dolans have chosen to farm. This wine is the Dark Horse Vineyard, Organically Grown batch but has been put out with two different labels. Same wine. The reason has to do with our supply of Syrah and timing on getting label approval.
2/11/13, 10:09 PM - This wine was good a couple of years ago. It has really come along. I wish we had more people who were aging Briceland's (our) Humboldt Pinots. Particularly Phelps has the tannin to age for sure. Rhonda's also. The others we have to rely on acid, but it is usually there.
Thanks for letting us know about this problem. We will review your comments and be in touch soon with an update.
