Opens up within in a few minutes yet I feel it could have opened up further. Wonderful blend and pairs well with our hummus and chicken pita dinner. Some boozey taste once in awhile but I hope this is due to the fact it is still tight(I’m going to extend the drinking window).

Has bright golden color and clean mineral and light citrus nose with the same flavors coming through on the palate and some gooseberry and a bit more weight in the finish, especially with some air and paired with the Alsatian onion/potato/bacon tarte flambé.

Quite tasty. My notes from this are fairly different than the notes from the bottle three years ago. This has some tart pear type fruit flavors, but is dominated by mineral flavors, with a very interesting combination of petrol on the attack, disappearing, then coming back on the finish, which is really quite lengthy. It is fairly tart throughout and we both enjoyed it more with food (skate with preserved lemons) than when drinking by itself. Makes me wish I'd served it with kraut and sausages.

This is The Little engine that could wine. I didn't give this one a snowball's chance of still being good. Actually turns out that this one has a fair amount of black cherry on both nose and palate. Hint of cola in the middle. Some smoked meats towards the finish. I think this is definitely over the hill, but I would say if you like your cabs with a little bit of funk to them moreso than just traditional aged notes, this is the perfect time to drink these. Definitely not going to get any better in the bottle.

2/8/19, 7:17 AM - Thanks for the tasting note. I have been sitting on two bottles of the 2008 Girard for years now. Will need to break one out shortly!

Tasted from a well-cellared bottle, this wine retains a youthful deep ruby/red appearance. Decanted off of its sediment and serially tasted over 2-3 hours, it develops an attractive bouquet of black currant fruit, accented by Asian spices and loamy earth. Medium-bodied, seamlessly alcoholic (14.5%) and with good acidity, it delivers flavors mirroring the nose. The tannins are largely resolved at this point, resulting in a soft-textured wine that has fairly good mid-palate presence and a medium-length finish. Assuming that one's bottle has been cellared appropriately, this wine should provide pleasure through the remainder of this decade. That said, it is lacking the "wow" factor that would be necessary for an outstanding rating. Drink now-2020.

2010 The Eyrie Vineyards Pinot Noir Willamette Valley
Good cherry high toned black cherry, spice mushroom and forest floor. Fine but fairly strong tannic sturcture, in fact I don't think I have ever had a pinot with that much tannin? Good acid, will reserve a score for another few years. Really was great after a few hours open. IMO this thing needs time.

2/12/16, 12:20 PM - Seems like the last few comments indicate that the wine needs time which leads me to think it has entered a shut down phase. Going to be updating my drinking window to start at 2017/18.

    Thanks for the note

Nose on this wine had a weird smell. It wasn't Brett and couldn't identify it but it was medium in intensity and had a earthy/organic quality.

Once that blew off after a couple hours, this drank well, with nice amounts of fruit on the palate, but backed by some spice notes. Did not taste much alcohol or oak. Compared to other tasting notes, I did not find this as overtly fruity as others described it.

Will try what is remaining on day 2.

9/12/15, 5:24 PM - Tried the wine today and it was totally disjointed and had to dump it out. I am hoping that this was just a bad bottle as I have 5 more left and have enjoyed Elyse wines in the past

Amazing complexity on the nose - classic citrus to tropical fruits, diesel, a leafiness, hint of leather, apple pie - wow.

The palate is fading at the edges but still shows an incredible fresh core showing this wine had some great acid at one point. Medium long finish of citrus and apple peel.
Very impressed.

Wow. This cork seems to have leaked at some point, though I have to say - in over 30 years of active tastings, I've rarely seen this make a difference with the hugely oxidation-resistant Riesling grape. Blasting nose of cream, cumin, talc and quince. Palate echoes this, along with a slurpable, still sweet, young, and utterly delicious, orchard fruit laden, exotically spiced, grape must, still primary explosion of very long, very broad, superb, 2001-ness. This bottle just starting its run and the talc-y, cumin infused artistry is something to behold. Brilliant. Bottle #1 of 6. 95pts, easily.

2007 Tallulah Syrah Bald Mountain Ranch Mt. Veeder
This is now past its prime, if there ever really was a prime drinking window for this one. I have to say that I am glad to see this go, I'd hoped that a 2007 would have aged nicely, but this one starts off as a strong industrial sense, very little odor left, and then goes flat. That takes about five minutes. At the end its at the spectrum of one of the worst tasting wines that I've had, so I'm being generous with a 73. So, while not yet turned to vinegar, this is one that was not meant for long aging and it shows.

5/15/14, 10:14 AM - I found the off-balance nature blew off my day 3. I am holding my other bottles for a few more years to hope they pull together.
