My dodgy taste buds at mo :(Sour, thin and acidic). I finding this with most wines at present. Not sure whats going on :(

4/21/24, 8:46 PM - Thank you - how long did it take for your tasting to recover

4/22/24, 1:27 AM - Thanks - not that I think I had covid recently (not ruling it out) but I hope my taste returns soon

Red
2015 Domaine Jamet Côte-Rôtie Syrah
Loved this. however still so young.Wonderful velvety texture and very fine tannins and gorgeous red fruit. deceptively big.
Only complaint was it had a strong nose of reduction maybe, possibly even ever so slightly corked ?

2/6/24, 4:49 PM - Thanks for your comments - I definitely initially thought it to be corked, that mouldy musty cardboard smell

Red
2014 Château Montrose St. Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend
WOW ! Not what I was expecting at all. Hard, austere, tannic and thin.
Still so closed - I wont touch for years....hmmmmmmmmmm
My first Montrose, I usually buy Cos instead.
Was this a typical Montrose ?

1/3/24, 11:53 AM - Thanks for the comment. Yes it seems a long way - very different from Cos.
2030 at the absolutely minimum I would think

Red
2012 Domaine du Pégau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée Red Rhone Blend
Im not a big CDP fan but this was drinking so well. Soft and complex with the appearance of low alcohol. Very nice indeed. Will be interesting to se where it goes from here.

Red
2005 Château Pontet-Canet Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend
I didn’t find it approachable (3 hours decant). Quite tannic. Needs loooots of time (closed compared to Lynch Bages of same year, much preferred that). Nothing like the 2010 I had previously. Not sure to be honest.

1/8/19, 12:02 AM - Thanks for your comment. Hope you are right. I was expecting a more enjoyable experience. Will wait another 5 years.

Red
2004 Penfolds Bin 389 South Australia Cabernet-Shiraz Blend, Red Blend
Decanted for 14 hours due to experience from last bottle and being out of the house. Still tannic, over the top fruit and acidic....hmmm....not pleasurable. Had some left in the decanter so tried in another 22 hours. Much better - still not great but fruit more approachable, tannins a little less obvious and acid seemed to have integrated. Thats a biiiiig decant. Will definitely (famous last words) leave minimum of 3 years (making 15 years) before next bottle. This reminds me why I went off 389. However saying that very much enjoyed the 2013 recently - a much preferred lower throttle style.
