Sadly, after the last time when I loved this wine so much, I held onto my second bottle like a cartoon miser. I guess that's why BV's Library Club released this back when they did -- because it was at its peak. Now it's over the hill and although still not awful, not really remarkable either. Lesson learned....when a library wine is released from its source, they're trying to tell you something.

I think this one is past its peak -- time to drink if you still have it sitting around.

My last bottle of the '88, and it's still drinking like a much younger wine. Perfect acidity, lots of complexity, and a finish that lasts for days. Very little petrol/garage on the nose -- more like cedar and honeydew and mango to me. Blueberries and bright acidity with more mango, stone-fruit, and honeysuckle on the palate. The acid plays well with the sweetness, and makes this more refreshing than you'd expect from an Auslese.

Nice porch wine for a warm day, but in general it's just kind of unremarkable/simple.

Crisp rich applesauce! That just keeps coming to mind. Really fantastic lingering finish too. Excellent bubbles for the price point.

Slightly frizzante when first opened! Lots going on, with a finish that turns pleasantly smoky.

This one was strange. Not bad strange, just unexpected. Complex but kind of earthy-berry-medicinal. Almost faintly like Moxie.

Appley and crisp...probably a pretty refreshing porch sipper for a hot no yeast, brioche, or nuttiness at all. day, but not as mellow as I like for my everyday bubbles.

Bright and bracing, kinda like Sour Patch Kids but less intense. Fun but might need more time to calm down.

These old-ass Selvapianas are always so much fun. This is really complex and surprisingly light. Nose has foresty mulch, cherry cola, and a hint of menthol. Palate is bright with slight acidity. Lots of cranberry and dank; cedar, vanilla, strawberry, lavender, bergamot. Clean but lingering finish.

After taking my first sip, I said HOLY FUCK THIS SHIT IS GOOD. And it is. Bright, vibrant, with juicy apple and round toasty almonds. A wee hint of something yellow too, like starfruit maybe.

Lovely, mellow, robust, balanced. Finish of candied lemons but without the sugar-sweetness or the acid.

Lots of soft herbal notes, coriander and nutmeg. Vanilla and dark cherries. Slight waft of bell pepper on the nose. Really just all-around pleasant.

Eeeek. At first taste, it almost knocked me over with its intense bracing tartness. But the finish is really long, and carries a lot of unexpected rich notes like coffee, chocolate, mushrooms, and oatmeal stout. Really interesting champagne.

Lighter than expected. The nose is a lot dankier than the palate. Nice balance between old & new.

Nice easy porch sipper. A bit tart, more than I expected from a 2014 anyway, but you can still get the wee hint of oak. Very pineappley too.

Super tasty and smooth, none of that cat-piss-grapefruit junk you get out of American Sauv Blancs. Round pineapple, melon, and lemon meringue notes. Approachable, soft, and refreshing.

Robust and rich but not cloying. Plenty of dank but balanced well with the tannins and dark red fruit. Needs some serious decanting for the character to shoe through though.

The eucalyptus is really coming out now - more so on the nose. Wafts off the palate with decanting. Tart cherry and cranberry with bright acid, but a deep blackberry undertone. Interesting to see this change as time goes on.

Medicine cabinet nose. Lavender, anise, eucalyptus. Needs time to open up, but once it does, it's really well-balanced. Herbaceous yet smooth and pleasant.

Too bad you can't get it. This was a bootlegged bottle. Boom.
