not blind, at the winery
2nd time I had this champagne. Again very convincing and reminding me to a Clos du Mesnil 2008. Concentrated, fresh, not too powerful. 97

Ripe apple, lemon, and whipped cream aromas. Bright citrus zest and vanilla flavors with a tropical lime and coconut finish. Lightly toasty / yeasty. Very crisp acidity and excellent minerality. A lovely expression of Chardonnay.

Just starting to show some maturity. Drink or hold.

blind
2 hours before we had not blind the 169. That one was really good but the 164 is in a different league. The good grapes are in the Grande Cuvee and not in the 2008 vintage but this is another story..
I guessed Clos du Mesnil because of the precision and the precise never ending finish. 97-98

If tasted blind, it could be confused with a Bordeaux. Drinking really well now, but plenty of life left. A beautiful, complex wine. Decanted about 45 minutes before drinking.

Positively suprised, not that fat and broad as I got used from Kastanienbusch, especially from this hot vintage. Creamy, nice adidity and some tropical fruits.Nicely balanced, I guessed 05 or 07, so a little bit more aged than expected but at his peak now, 91-92

Zero dosage, The best I had so far from Marguet. Powerful, great acidity structure, dense, concentrated, long clean finish, very chalky and saline, 94

(Disgorged in December 2005, 100% Chardonnay)
Golden yellow colour with a stream of very fine bubbles and with a maturing nose showing cream, dark chocolate, fresh baked bread and minerals. Fresh and creamy palate with a delicious lime acidity that dominates over the yellow apples and plums fruit, and with a very nice and long lemon bitterness on the finish that keeps it all together.
This was drinking wonderfully as always and is consistently one of the best cuvées of the 1996 vintage in my book! Best 2016-2036.

Deg. March 2014. Medium golden color. Smaller lower bubbles. Wow... Explosive notes of ripe apples, baking spices, lots of brioche/toasty autolytic notes. Also some honey and mineral notes. It's medium-full bodied, slightly creamy with medium+ acidity and medium-lower mousse of small bubbles. Great length. A very beautiful Champagne from this great vintage. My first time tasting this and hopefully not my last one. I don't get some of the scores here...(93+)

gave this plenty of decant time but somehow this bottle never showed us the love and the intensity and richness one would expect. No detectable flaws but rather simple. I am probably being a little critical as considering the vintage this should be a lot more impressive. Maybe just in a dumb phase or just an off bottle.

8/27/15, 11:23 AM - Indeed short finish. 100% aggre. Disapointing and for me not worth even the smal money. A baby Ausone? Hmm....

  • marcolino commented:

8/27/15, 10:35 PM - Well, the wineyards are just below the ones from Ausone and it is the same owner than Ausone. That this is a small Ausone is what I read...

Medium ruby. Ripe, heady nose with some alcohol. Full, sappy, complex with as much soil and anise as plummy fruit. Hard to know how or with what this would work at the table.

Clean, clear, light golden yellow, full bodied
Honey-suckle, petrol, melon,
Lemon tarts, yeasty, long finish.
Sweet honey, elderflower through the middle.

This is a sophisticated, well balanced, finely tuned wine. PW's fave white.

Best Bottle Dinner at The Steakhouse in Lachen. We drank this Château Clinet 1999 next to a bottle of Château Clinet 1998. We poured the wine into a decanter, served the first glass immediately and consumed the bottle over four hours. The wine was bright medium-ruby in colour, with a brick-ish touch. It offered beetroot, chocolate, espresso, coffee, tobacco and smoke on the rather closed nose. On the palate the wine was rather tightly wound, with blackberry, cherry, cucumber, rose water, and coffee and tobacco on the finish, paired with fine, firm tannins and very good length. The wine was very closed compared to a very expressive bottle of 1999 Clinet I had about a year ago, even after four hours in the decanter. I’d try again in two years.

Compared to the Château Clinet 1998 this 1999 was much darker in colour and seemed much more youthful and longer-lived, but also much tighter and in a rather closed-down phase. Also, the 1998 was not only more expressive today, but also much more elegant, with even finer tannins. We actually completely forgot the 1999 about the 1998 and spent two hours with the 1998 before we turned back to the 1999, which never opened-up completely tonight. Both wines had the same alcohol content (12.5% ABV). Interestingly, the 1998 was bottled in a green glass bottle whereas the 1999 was bottled in a brown glass bottle.
