New Years Day here in Tropiclal Whitsundays overlooking Hamilton Island were we missed the heavy storms and having lovely SE Winds giving mild day for Summer here.. I was to be in Melbourne last night , but unforseen changes happened , i had to cancel so . later in the Autumn will be my trip south checking on regions in Vic & SA ..

Anyway , i thought its New years day and as i still a few bottles left of this great wine i give you a update.. Decanted for 15mins with perfect cork , i give you a update..Still deep black core in colour with a ruby rim at Jan 2024. perfect colour for a 16yr old wine.. Ready to enjoy but No signs yet of being finished or too old , amazing for its age..

Wow leaping out of the glass Ripe sweet black fruits ( Blackcurrants, Plumbs and blueberries with hints of dark chocolate ) everywhere on the nose and with lovely tobacco complexity and still some very good oak showing ..Amazing for its age Ready for certain ..

Now on the palate sweet fruit still upfront , still rich mid palate sweetness and lovely soft oily tannins giving amazing length for a wine of this age ... Yum what a drink and just proving how good wine can be from this difficult area to grow grapes , just look at this season were they have been hit by hailstones and heavy rain...But this is the risk in the New England areas from northern NSW to Southern Qld and the great diving range ..Stanthorpe region is the highest area around 3000ft above sea levels on sandy granite soils

Worth checking out if you can find, check out Auctions , trust me and OZMANGO is correct as it will live still for a few years yet as the fruit is so good.. Great wine is hard to find .. QPR $80+ if you find

Ink black with tinges of red. Earthy vanilla parfume. Soft juicy pillowy cabernet fruit followed by drying and lingering tannins. In it's prime. I pity our CT comrade who suffered bad bottles some years ago. Definitely for red meat dishes.

Starting to mature. Golden straw in colour. Slight leathery complexity to the nose typical of middle aged Hunter Semillon. Flinty minerality to the palate. Good acid but little fruit showing. Needs time.

Drunk with a kangaroo stew. The big tannins are softening since last time but could still cut through to cleanse the palate. Not sure it will improve much further with additional age.

Delicious Barossa shiraz. Hitting its straps. Dark brooding fruit. Firm but soft tannins. Impressive.

Flinty. Needs more time in cellar. Starting to come out of its middle age paunch and showing some refinement.

Surprisingly dull on the noise. Almost cooked. Big tannins. I would normally be enamored by this wine. However this bottle is not up to par. Strange as cork was fine

1/2/16, 4:52 AM - Seems there are 2 versions of this wine. The one that stayed in Australia and the one that went to the USA only to return. This one seem to gave been mishandled in transit. Seems I have the later. See what the other bottles bring.
