One of my favorite wines Inhve has from Maillart. Just love.

12/9/19, 11:55 AM - For the most part I agree. There is bottle variability in the Franc De Pied 2012 and the Rose is extremely pale and understated this time around. Tasty but pretty unsubstantial.

This was quite good with pure fruit and a touch of sweetness. This has evolved faster than expected since my last bottle and fast by Rhys standards. I’d say is firmly in the drinking window, and while I don’t see this falling off in the immediate future, I also don’t see much upside to further aging.

6/28/19, 11:07 PM - My bottle I opened this evening is in no rush to be opened. Silky and expressive and no rush. Has plenty of legs.

By no means can I recommend these at the hundreds of $$$ price point the. Go for in the secondary market but if you are one of the few to get it via the list these are very compelling wines. This rose is beautifully colored with a rose water and blood orange flesh type tone. Automatically sublet floral and integrated. The mouth is fresh, balanced and complex. The finish is not super long but a complete drink and I really am very happy when I drink these wines.

12/26/18, 1:41 PM - As it opened it gained tremendous length and focus and showed a nice tight youthfulness. A wine that likes air and unfolds slowly. Beautiful showing. I wish I was able to buy more.

This wine has finally relaxed. That sweaty earth underbrush tightness it has had over the last 4 years has parted for some deeply pitched cherry and pomegranate fruit with persistent acidity that has lengthened the wines since I had it last a couple years ago. The mouth has a lushness that leads to a zingy finish that vibrates the tongue. Really delicious wine from a difficult vintage. This site is probably more familiar to Cali Pinot drinkers than the Santa Cruz mountain fruit most of the other wines come from. These wines need time. I think 6/7yrs from vintage is a minimum on the single vineyard bottlings. Really pleased to be on the journey with this estate.

5/6/18, 5:59 PM - Follow up. 1/3 of the bottle was left for day two. Decomposed earth and leaves have really moved into the house. Tertiary maturation came on stronger than I would have thought. While it opens beautifully on day 1one I would make sure to drink this wine on initial opening. Not that it is donzo on day two but vibrancy mellows out and its more exciting on day 1. Still just an impressive effort on a difficult vintage. Excited for my 15s due to arrive this week.

Still Young. Hold if you got em. No one really doing this in CA to this level. Restraint, respect, austerity, just awesome.

7/20/17, 12:19 AM - Thanks Eric. It's tough to gauge the longevity of this one. Was surprisingly open out of the gate if not still youthfully monolithic but really took an introverted route about 30 minutes after decant. I would say 6yrs from vintage is when I would have checked in again if I had another bottle. Special juce none the less.

Ive, had this before to much more success. This wine is tasty, but failing to a few of the pit falls of some CalItal wines. Just a soft sweet density weighing down what is traditionally a light on its feet and aromatically lifted varietal. Monolithic when pop and poured. Its a good drink, just really pricey for what you are getting here. This winery has some incredible bright spots. This one, today, just isn't one of them.

1/22/17, 6:44 PM - I had a feeling I would need to follow up. A beautiful, crushed flower and spice undertone keeps creeping in with every drink. The density still weighs things down a little too much for my taste but it drinks better with every sip. My suggestion is decant for an hour. Probably reward very nicely.

2014 Daniel Bouland Morgon Les Délys Gamay

Young Morgon (Mostly 2014's) (SF Wine Trading Company): Deep ruby. Complex aromatics of camphor and blackberry jam. Medium weight with terrific sap. Deeply imbued black fruit with natural sweetness, strong but not screechy acidity, great sense of soil, classic, drying tannins. Wow, in Gamay terms, this is pretty profound stuff. The most impressive bottle of the day, even next to 2 of my favorite Beaujolais producers-bravo!

2011 Alice et Olivier De Moor Bourgogne le rouge d'etienne Pinot Noir

Nice Translucent glowing deep red color. Smells great. Cherry candy, licorice and a manageable touch of VA. Medium bodied crunchy texture. Rose petal inflected cherry fruit. A little baking spice in the back. Decent acidity. Fruit has slightly dilute flavor quality but still yummy. Minty cherry candy in the finish. Not super long but very pleasing. Simple, but really tasty. Better chilled. Well priced.
  • Andyofoto commented:

8/21/15, 12:26 PM - Wine enhanced by food. Fruit concentrates and it gains length. Flawed aromatics integrate further and become more background. There is a fragile nature that probably demands it not be jostled around too much before serving. From cellar to glass it is a great wine.
