Had to try on as I’ve bought a lot and wanted to see where this starts. Slow oxed for 24 hrs then into a decanter for another 8. Crazy nose of cherries, crushed stone, lavender, roses, burnt orange, and hay. Still tannic but a really beautiful balanced mouthful of dark fruits, chocolate, dust, cherries, and a nice sweet top note. Still very very young and I won’t touch these again for a minimum of 10-12 years so it can develop. This will be a truly great wine in time and I hope to follow it for 20-25 years. Wow.

11/10/22, 12:24 AM - I think that your missing some great drinking experiences by not holding your Brunello’s for 15-20 years. They develop some great secondary attributes that only time can reveal. I still have a few 1997’s and 2001’s that are a real treat to open.

11/12/22, 5:40 AM - I had many vintages of Canalicchio di Sopra and they all benefit with 15-20 yrs of cellar time. Just finished the 2001’s and the last bottle was the best. I think that 16 has more power/structure than any other vintage, so I think it will be a very long lived vintage. Probably outlive me.

Tasted at the UGC event in NYC. This opens up with a full assault of flowers, creme de cassis and just packed with layers of fruit. One of the best mid pallets that help the finish linger for what seems forever. Epic vintage for this wine.

10/26/22, 5:53 AM - I was very fortunate that I bought a lot of the GPL - all I could get my hands on at the time so I'll be able to follow it for many many years. :-)

flawed
Slow oxed for 7 hours then into a decanter. Mildly corked. I have 4 bottles left and each of them is showing signs of seepage evidenced by stained labels. It’s been in my controlled cellar with 1000’s of other bottles and these are the first that have shown this. Maybe a flaw with corks? The first two of six were fine. Province is everything and I’m always very careful with my wines. Be interested to see what’s up with other 3 bottles. Glad I only bought 1/2 case.

9/18/21, 11:52 AM - Don’t rush the 2010’s. In my experience they are still developing beautifully. I have 12 cases and I’ve tried a few of the bug boys and think another 7-10 will make them into something spectacular. The balance of these wines are impeccable and combined with the layers of fruit are a winning combination.

Poped and poured on a hot night. It was not a good idea but on day two this has changed into a really good wine. It’s very dark in the glass and there are wafting smells of deep dark red fruits, graphite, camphor and smoke. Nice. In the mouth a lot of fruit and graphite along with sweet black cherries and a nice sweetness. This is far from ready And with a really long decant, like 24 hrs, it really fine. I bought a lot of them based on my experiences of the 2010 so I tried another. Better than first bottle. I can’t wait to see how this unfolds. Today 93ish but definitely higher in the future. Great QPR and great food wine.

7/30/20, 10:49 PM - I’m a bit of an outlier when it comes to aging a preparing to drink wine I think that most people don’t understand that the “pros” who review wines are using all their expertise to give us a snapshot into what/where a wine will be when it matures. So if you read a 95 pt review that DOESN'T mean that the wine will be there If you pop a bottle. You need to respect the aging curve of a wine. All that said, my little crusade, of letting wines age. So to get back to your question about Eno I have found that this wine has acted much differently that most others. I have had 3 vintages and all of the bottles are better when pop. As to the aging curveI I think this wine can be consumed young or let age. I like it better when it ages but my experience is to pop no matter how old the wine is.

I completely agree with music listener. Very disappointed. Only bought one to try. Many other producers that I like much, much better. Sticking with my old reliables.
