2006 Erna Schein Syrah Homage to Ed Oliveira Alder Springs Vineyard Mendocino County
Lots of tannin and acid. No fruit. Well past its drinking window, I believe

2/16/22, 3:22 PM - WELL past it's prime - it was gorgeous a few years ago.... Sorry you weren't able to enjoy it then.

Corked😓. Bought this in 99-2000. Perfectly stored by me.

Double decanted. Good texture, depth, and balance. Interesting. Finish is a bit short.

Ok, so now its Monday and I wanted to make note of a mistake in my notes. I unfortunately mixed two tremendous wines on the weekend. One was the Behrens LOL but when posting, I actually posted a review for 2005 Terra Valentine Wurltele. My apologies and thanks to those that pointed it out. With that said, The LOL was tremendous and over the top with flavor. From the rich fragrance released upon opening to the beautiful flavors released in the mouth. Velvet finish and although decanted for a couple of hours, wine has the ability to age gracefully. Like many of the Behren's wine, layers of nuances make this a wine to sip and personally, not introduce any foods into the mix.

Bummer when you sit on an expensive bottle for a decade and open with a ribeye on a Saturday night and it is corked
  • Lucyspal commented:

2/8/15, 9:04 AM - I don't know what the deal was with Sloan, but I've had TWO corked bottles and my friend also had one….I'd get in touch with them if possible… Definitely higher incidence with this winery than any other high end winery that I've ever known….

Began buying Erna Schein/Behren Hitchcock’s huge fruit forward Cabernets a few years back. They are still delicious but a little too much for my current preference. Picked this one up at the trailer tasting room on Spring Mountain. Consisting of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with a dash of Merlot and Petit Verdot. Smooth black fruit, vanilla, and cherry with mild tannins. Still has some time but owner/winemaker Les Behrens advices to drink all wines within 5 years of vintage.
