2021 Quilceda Creek CVR Columbia Valley Red Bordeaux Blend
Wow. This is my third vintage of this wine. I loved the '19 and enjoyed the '20. I opened 1 of 12 '21 to try it out. I'm super disappointed with the wine. It is suprisingly sweet. Almost Caymus-like. My comments are from Day 2, where I had about 6 ounces yesterday and stored the bottle overnight in my wine fridge. I doubt it's a single bottle issue. I think I'll pass on this wine going forward. I've been moving to old world wines for a while now and this is just not enjoyable to me. Not rating the bottle as I'm total confused what happened in '21 compared to '20 and '19.

Looking forward to seeing some more commentary on the wine from others.

2016 No Girls Syrah Walla Walla Valley

I don't know what it is about No Girls wine. This is the first of the Syrah I've tried and, like the Temp and Grenache they have quite a stink on the nose. As a fan of Southern Rhone wine, I am used to some amount of this. No Girls, however, takes this to an unpleasant level which doesn't blow off with decanting.

Otherwise, a big, meaty wine. Tastes decent if you can get it past your nose.

2/10/21, 9:34 PM - Southern Rhone is not rocky like the WA rocks district so don’t produce the meaty savory wines of cote rotie northern Rhone, as far as I am aware. Hence not the best comparison and might also explain the score

Day 1 Nice Syrah. Classic rocks. Smoky nose. Day 2, ahh that’s some good stuff. Still has some bright fruit to offer up. Tart cherry, smoky, briny. So happy about WA’s distinctive syrahs. I’m savoring this one. Pleasurable. I’m going to need to spend the balance of the evening sipping this down. Drink slow and enjoy.

2016 Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley

This is a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon expression with a new world expressiveness and ripeness but no overripeness, not overdone in anyway. Beautiful concentration, complexity and precision. This wine got better and better with air, so give it a decent decant but having had to aged examples (02/03) with lots of credit from the critics which already were over the hill, I guess these wines should be drunk in the first 5-7 years.

TN: Dark cherries, blueberries, mint, anis, crushed stone on the expressive nose. Harmonious, ripe but not too ripe.Intense and with high precision, sexy without being slutty. Same profile on the palate where the fruit expression is ripe but cool and fresh. Additional layers of baking spices, Asian spices, anis, mint, just a touch medicinal herbs which provides another layer of freshness, some chocolate scents appearing with time, lots of rocks. Good tannin structure with super fine tannins, a round and fresh acidity, not too much weight despite the youthful exuberance of the wine. Medium+ length.

Decanting: At least two hours.
