Outstanding. One caveat, we drank this and a ‘19 Vice Versa Las Piedras the same evening. Everyone preferred that to the Mag 7. Surprising. I wonder what a couple extra years would do to change that.

I loved this one. Just packed with everything and still young. I have one more for the holidays next year!

11/21/23, 11:57 AM - No but we drank it over a couple hours. It was great out of the bottle and only got better.

Round Three. Worth the wait. Balanced and integrated. The tannins have resolved, there is now a distinct middle and deeper range of flavor layers. The fruit still shines but it’s now in harmony.
  • Artbreadman commented:

4/7/23, 5:37 PM - I was in a hurry and only decanted for an hour. The wine continued to improve for the next several hours as we sipped it. Im guessing 2-3 hours is sufficient

Delicious and will continue to improve.

3/20/23, 8:56 AM - I was too impatient and had a glass PnP and it was good. I had a second glass a few hours later and it was much better. So yes, if I weren’t in a hurry, I’d give it 3-4 hours.

Soft, warm plum and spice on the nose. A little subdued.

Velvety texture surrounding a big wine. Bitter fruit and leather. Vanilla and some ripe plum.

This is a big wine that is a little shy; a charming combination. Charitably, this is a very well-made modern Napa Cab. Uncharitably, this is a slightly generic cult-style wine.

Recommendation: serve this to your friends who will enjoy and appreciate good wine, but not your friends who are wine experts.

Drinkable now; tannins not fully integrated.

11/22/22, 10:20 AM - Love the comment. Jen Dunnuck just put this on his top 100. I’m looking forward to trying mine in 2 years and checking back in with my POV. Thanks for creating a controversy JonH1

I’m hoping this wine is in a shut down phase because it didn’t come close to matching the comments of previous reviews. Very one dimensional. Dark fruit, some cocoa, little else and definitely not a long finish. I will wait 3 years before opening the next one.

9/17/22, 11:00 AM - Hi OG, I hope I’m not making a mistake but I did order the 3 pack of 2019 Cariad. This may be my last Colgin purchase because like you, I haven’t been wowed by this winery yet and it is quite pricey. Seems you and I may have similar tastes. I recommend Vice Versa if you haven’t tried them yet.

I know I opened it early. But it had a 2 hour decant. I kind of hated it. Everyone with me felt the same. Too sour, thin, nothing good to say so I will stop.

6/20/22, 6:15 AM - Hi, No I haven’t had any other wine from there. A very reputable wine merchant who has an Italian wine specialty store suggested it. First time I didn’t like something he recommended. He thought the unique grape would appeal to me.

I have a few so I decided to pop one early and I didn’t regret it Very nicely developed so far. Lots of black fruit, a bit of red too. Plenty of depth. Enough tannin to continue to evolve for many years. Will be great in 5 years.
  • Artbreadman commented:

1/24/20, 1:11 PM - I didn’t decant it. I decided to pour about 7oz and sipped it over about 2 hours. It was excellent at first sip and continued to evolve the entire time. Very drinkable at any point. The remainder of the bottle is Coravined.

I’m at a loss on this wine. Very little bouquet, thin overall. Not much fruit or layers of different flavors. The predominant taste is acidic. It reminded me of many inexpensive mass produced Pinot Noirs I’ve tasted. Even at $25 a bottle I would be disappointed. So many other alternative excellent Brunello’s available for far less.

3/31/19, 11:19 AM - Say what you will. I’ve tasted wine that has shut down before. This was decanted 3 hours and drunk over another 2 hours. Write back in 10 years. This wine will never live up to the hype. Apparently, this vintner has a cult of supporters intent on explaining how I’m wrong lol.
