Purchased at the winery. 2011 was a difficult vintage but this wine did not show any thinness or lack of depth. The wine was lively with a tart cherry and red berry flavors with a spicy component. Color was still dark red/ruby with good clarity. Little sediment was observed upon decanting.

The wine looks garnet colored. The legs are medium. There is moderate sediment in the bottle. It smells like cherry, forest floor, light toast and rose. It tastes like black currant (cassis) and cherry. The body is medium. The wine has round texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity.

1995 Château Beychevelle St. Julien Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
This wine was stood for several days and upon decanting had about a tablespoon of sediment. Decanted for about two hours. The wine had a garnet color and a aromas of dried fruit and leather. The palate was medium body, and no gaps in the flavor profile. Dried cherries were the main flavor with hints of earth and leather. A nice drink and ready to enjoy.

Served this wine for Mother’s Day. Found the wine good, but not great. While the wine was smooth, elegant, and showed good balance, it lacked depth and complexity. Considering all the discussion about this wine when it was released, I expected a bit more. Similar findings with a bottle tasted two years previous.
