Opened via 3 days - days 3 fully integrated tannins and truly nice structured and balanced wine! Nice red fruits with hints of amaretto/marzipan - nice barbaresco - empty glass with air shows hints of porchini mushrooms

3/22/24, 8:53 AM - great call on the marzipan! agreed

Elegant nose -- jasmine/white flower. This is a delicate wine. What it lacks is more punch in the mid and late palate. Originially tasted iside-by-side with the Oakridge Henk Vineyard Chardonnay, and it was flimsy in comparison. When tasted in isolation a different day, however, it was able to show its merits. Paired really nicely with spicy Chinese beef noodle soup.

3/15/24, 10:07 AM - been a few weeks now, but I actually do recall a fair amount of sediment. I think I have one more in the cellar to revisit

Dense, structured. Cannot believe this is 19 years old. Still very primary -- layers of crushed sweet blackberry, floral. Decant for several hours.

2/18/24, 4:03 PM - I was just blown away by how clean / precise this is at this age! Wish I had another bottle to try in 10 years.

This one lives up to the K&L hype. Excellent and interesting stuff. Better warmer than fridge temp. Opened up and stayed bright and herbal for about 3 hours. Will probably get more of this.

Really disappointing for the price! lacks concentration or finesse...tasted it side by side with a grocery-store-purchased premier cru Fixin 1/4 the price, and the Fixin was the better wine. Perhaps I'm missing something, given the stellar reviews... perhaps it will awaken after some more years of bottle age?

1/9/24, 11:54 AM - oof ok - I was worried it was because I opened it too early.

This was probably the very best new world white wine I've had.
The community note sentiments are solid.

This is a burgundian chardonnay with an exotic flair, in the premier to grand cru range.
Yellow green in glass. Taut, linear cool climate wine, with tropical notes of kiwi, mango, green apple, acid is shimmering and holds the wine together
The finish is spectacular, minutes long, and very high complexity
The french oak is present but well integrated in my view
Needs a long decant if opening now, otherwise I'd give it 7-10 years in cellar. Bravo, will be keeping this producer and region in mind

1/8/24, 10:40 AM - nice - haver never tasted, but I have a 2019 tucked away in the cellar. good to know to wait a while. Their cabernet is also phenomenal (and insane value) ... have a 2018 in cellar

There's complexity and concentration -- greatness underneath that is unfortunately a bit sullied by a brettiness that overstays its welcome for Pontet (which in 2009 and 2010 was notable for their precision, and was among the best wine I've ever tasted).

100% sangiovese (don't know why I thought this was a super tuscan). The color was dark ruby. On the nose, the first notes I got were dark fruits and cinnamon. On the palate, plenty of fruit again dark and hints of clove and tar. The tannins were well-integrated with a really long finish. Drank the entire bottle. Would buy again in a heartbeat. Wish I had bought several bottles to taste over time.

This has been open about a day. Reductive with salty popcorn, cumin, toasty, wood, matchstick. Definitely a ton of salty buttered popcorn. a bit of lemon and green apple. Palate is more of the salty buttered popcorn, lemon, spice and a bit spicy, green apple, toast, wood - its got good grip and fills the mouth well but something about the mouthfeel and taste bothers me a bit - I guess it just feels like the CA Chard experience - I want to say generic but I'm not sure that's it. The palate feels a bit monolithic and overdone. The wine tightens up into the finish and is more pure - with the salty popcorn and cumin for sure but also the lemon and green apple have a pure sweet note. Nose - 4.5-5/6, Palate - 4.5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 0.5/2 =14.5-15/20.

It's got more to it than the Martin Woods Koosha I had recently but pales in comparison to the 19 Goodfellow Richard's Cuvee from a while back. I don't drink a lot of domestic Chard and although this is pretty good, I can see why. With tax and ship from the Ridge wine club this clocks in at over $80 - not a good deal at all.
