Great complexity, purity of fruit and pastry aromas. Soft acidity, elegant mouthfeel and lengthy finish. Definitely my favourite NV I've had to date.

Deep gold colour.

Pronounced aromas of baked apple, brioche, fresh biscuits, apple pie, tangy lemon, ripe quince, pear, marmalade, walnut, ginger.

Pronounced palate.

Medium body, high acidity, creamy mousse, long finish.

So beautiful - just enough creamy richness and all else is lemony oystershell. Lunch with J, who also enjoyed it.

Red
2017 Ridge Monte Bello Santa Cruz Mountains Red Bordeaux Blend
Ethereal, wonderfully balanced wine. Clean black and blue fruit, with a spice note that all of us found hard to place, but the closest we could get was paprika mixed with menthol.

Was worried about the smokey vintage but could not detect any taint here at all (whew!).

10/29/21, 3:11 PM - Ridge's Monte Bello Vineyard is roughly 100 miles south of where the major fires of 2017 were located, in Napa and Sonoma counties. A light haze from the smoke did slow down the ripening of some blocks in the vineyard, but the smoke was much too diffuse to possibly affect the grapes.

Side by side with the 2014. Two hour decant. Both reflected their vintages well (11 more red-fruit, higher acid; 14 more ripe with darker fruit). All 5 tasters loved both, with preference to the 11 with dinner and the 14 for sipping by itself.

11/12/20, 10:06 AM - Did you decant ahead of time, and if so, for how long ?

Asking this on the 2014 note too, as I'm thinking about doing these 2 side by side soon.

    Thanks !
