1992 Taylor (Fladgate) Porto Vintage Port Blend

The color is medium ruby with garnet reflexes. On the nose there are very pronounced aromas of dried dark fruits like plum, cherries and figs. There is also some roasted hazelnut and little smoke. The wine is sweet but due to the high acidity extremely well balanced. The tannins are medium. The wine is high bodied. The flavors on the palate are also very pronounced and similar to the nose. The finish is never ending. I decanted the wine for about 4 hours. Next time I will do it shorter (1 hour) because I had the impression that the wine lost a very little of depth. I had this wine to a chocolate soufflé which was just a perfect pairing. Glass I used: Riedel Vinum Port

12/24/23, 5:00 AM - Thanks for your comment! Yes, it’s really in a great spot. It’s the best vintage port I have ever tasted.

I'm never really sure about vintage ports regarding decanting time. There are so many opinions about it. So, just try it and take every hour a sip :-) In the end, it’s also a matter of taste.

The wine is medium golden colored. On the nose there are beautiful pronounced aromas of chamomile, quince, almond, honey, bee wax, little wet stone. The acidity is high and the body medium(-). It feels like there is a very little tannin. On the palate the flavors are similar to the nose and also pronounced . The finish is extremely long. A great wine for those who like beautiful oxidation notes. I recommend to drink this wine not too cold. I liked it around 13 degrees celsius. Glass I used: Zalto Universal

The color is deep ruby. On the nose there are pronounced aromas of stewed red plum, red cherries, blackberries, coffee. The acidity is medium(+) as well as the tannins are. The wine has a full body. On the palate the flavors are also pronounced and similar to the nose with vanilla in addition. The finish is long. This right bank Bordeaux is at the beginning of its drinking windows with a few years ahead of it. It's already pretty complex but I expect the complexity to increase with aging. Glass I used: Zalto Bordeaux

Color: medium-deep ruby with little garnet reflexes / Nose: intense, dark cherries, ripe strawberries, little cigar box and menthol / Palate: high acidity, medium and very silky tannins, medium bodied, fantastic length, blackberries, redcurrant, coffee, earthy notes / Glass I used: Zalto Universal / Overall: A great classic produced Rioja. There are no heavy vanilla notes which I usually expect from a Rioja and which I don't like very much. This Rioja even has elements of a Burgundy or an elegant Nebbiolo. It is at a perfect stage but will have some years ahead of it. It is the first time that I tasted a wine from this producer. It blew me away. The wine is intense but extremely elegant at the same time. This Rioja is fresh, has a fantastic balance, is very precise and has a fantastic length. Just great!!! 9/10 (special plus for balance and length)
