#Philippe_C hits the nail in all of his notes on this serious wine, The star of the afternoon during a high level Rhone tasting at #Hein Post. I would start drinking now at a pace of - say - 1 bottle a year to follow its progress

Allemand Reynard survey (Chicago, IL): Well, akshually, this is now called the Cuvée R, as I guess the INAO wised up to the shenanigans at the winery. Anyway. I dunno. It's a barrel sample. Lots of black fruit, but not to the same extent as the 2018 on release; this is more lithe and elegant. There's more lift and acid here, even though this features a tannic wall that clamps down hard starting at the midpalate. But the complexity, and more importantly, the silky texture of Allemand is here and it's abundantly clear that while this isn't drinking excitingly today, this is a textbook bottle of Allemand that should develop very nicely in the years to come. If I'm to throw a comparison out there, maybe a hypothetical mix of 2009 and 2010?

No detailed note made, but this bottle was absolutely on fire. Decanted (which I know is against instructions for this vintage!), and showing more intense and expressive than previous bottles (probably as a result thereof :)).
  • Peter Spijker commented:

4/20/24, 9:17 AM - Thanks Seth! Just managed to score some of your 2019 vintage on auction over here in Europe, really happy with that as well :)

2021 Domaine Guilbert Gillet Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Planchots du Nord Pinot Noir
Young guns of Burgundy: Tasted double blind. Clear, medium ruby golor. Balanced, herbaceous nose with fine strawberries.
On the palate round and balanced, a bit "dirty" with artificial fruit. Medium length. 88

BYOB dinner and then some; 2/1/2024-2/2/2024 (Avalon, Amsterdam): One of the last bottles of the night, did not get the attention it deserved. Very elegant with brioche, citrus, minerality, nectarine. Very long finish. Dogorgement april 2020

Drank from magnum. I was excited to see where Maggie's wines could go with some age, and this one did not disappoint. The previous note from 3daywinereview.com nails it - strawberries, red cherries, pine needles, florals, baking spices, minerals and forest floor.
It has come together quite nicely after a decade in the bottle, but I don't think it's built to go too much longer. There may be a few more tricks up it's sleeve with a few more years of cellaring, but I will personally plan on drinking my remaining magnum sometime in the next 1-2 years.

Koenraad; start of a tradition? (Koenraad, Utrecht, NL): Great surprise. I’d heard vaguely about the producer and I have some Chardonnay from this vineyard from another producer, but this was very good. Lovely reduction, lean and elegant, stone fruit, toast, lemon grass, white peach. Medium acidity, medium+ finish. 92-93

From two leased blocks from the other producer in my cellar, planted in 2012. 12 months in 50% new oak, 350L. 73 cases produced

Lovely wine, with apple, lemon, some honey notes, flowers, lemon, pear, canteloupe melon, barely ripe peach. It did need some air which balanced the sugar a bit more with acidity, but the wine never showed that amazing tension that I hope for in a good Riesling.

Peach, lime, mango, smoke. Mineral aspects are more obvious on first taste. Clean and pure palate, with low to moderate acid. So fresh and attractive. Youthful and primary but delicious now.

Not scoring this as 2/3rds of the bottle was consumed on day one, but not scored, and then stored in a Somm du Vin for 5 days. On day 5 it has much declined, showing notes of VA and extremely muted on the palate. On day one it felt fully developed but was drinking well (89-91).

Recommend to drink now.

Tried two bottles of this. The first one seemed fine, but the sommelier noted it was 'off'. Trying the second bottle showed that this was correct; this bottle was much more pure, with olives, blackberry, black cherry, some purple flowers, earthy spices, oak and smoked meat. Great bottle and glad to have tried this.

This wine did very little for me. The nose and palate are quite intense, but there is no real typicity to be found here, and the wine has quite a significant 'natural wine' feel. I can fully see the other commentor's reference to hay and gunpowder, but I'm not sure thats such a nice thing. Acidity is quite high, which makes me curious how this will be in a year or 5. For me not worth the hype/money.
  • Peter Spijker commented:

8/7/23, 4:57 AM - I paid 99 euro for it (which I think is too much), and indeed in the market it goes for 400+ apparently which is absolutely nuts. For 36 I might try it again, haha! I have tried to find which grape(s) are in this wine, but couldn't really find anything. In any case I think there is (some) Riesling (as well), but also that was very difficult to find.

Two bottles tasted text to eachother one opened three days in advance and one freshly decanted. The difference is noticeable and almost remarkable. This is still a young wine, but after three days open it is really lovely.
  • Peter Spijker commented:

8/17/23, 12:23 AM - I honestly don't remember, someone else prepared the bottles... You could try to double decant, and then store with cork in and taste every so often?

Bottle 1408 of 1797. 13.5% alcohol. Clearly whole bunch, some green herb, raspberry, cherry, cream, currant, high acidity. Fine but grippy tannins, medium long tart finish. I found this less open than the Pommard (which to be honest we gave a bit more time in the decanter), and would recommend putting these away for quite some time.
  • Peter Spijker commented:

7/7/23, 1:26 PM - That's a hard one to answer. Its really not something to drink now (like many great wines), although it is already lovely. One person's 'wow' bottle may be another person's 'meh' bottle, so I can't really judge that for you...

Prior bottle was 2 years and 2 months ago and the wine continues to show beautifully. Black cherry, earth and spice notes on the nose. Closer to medium bodied now with rounded and expressive black and red cherry upfront. Adding red berries and blackberry through the mid-body and backside. The mid-body remains elegant, but also a touch more integrated than previously. Good backside structure provided by fine grained tannins, spices and mineral notes. The wine is a whole is drinking beautifully, with expressiveness, complexity and balance. However, based on consistent notes and the fact that the wine is more rounded and integrated, this is clearly peak. It will last for several additional years at a high level, but there's no reason to wait and this should ideally be drunk over the next 18-24 months to enjoy this peak.
  • Peter Spijker commented:

7/3/23, 7:08 AM - Thanks for the detailed note! I just bought 2 magnums of this, seems like it could be time to open one (although it should have aged less)!

7/3/23, 8:14 AM - I got lucky on an auction and got two each of the Ceras, Botanica and Antikythera (the latter I have never had before); if you're ever around in Amsterdam I'll happily open one for you! And thanks for the advice!

Given how rare this wine is, I just had to order it before I can never drink (or afford) it again. This was decanted for a good hour and served chilled. I can’t help comparing this to the 2020 vintage I had earlier this year. I’d say the 2021 is more floral and elegant, leaning more to red fruits like strawberry and raspberry. On the palate, there is noticeably more acidity than last year’s vintage, giving the wine more freshness. I didn’t notice any intense green aromas, but the wine clearly had some whole bunch green-ness and spice. The tannins were (obviously) quite present and gave the wine a somewhat rough feeling, but I guess that will be gone with some age. All in all this is a very pretty wine, that will become even better.
  • Peter Spijker commented:

7/3/23, 7:10 AM - I did not unfortunately! Paid 325 euro for this in a restaurant. I think at 470 CHF it's still 'reasonable' (of course depending on everyone's financial circumstances), but nearing the limit of what it is.

2018 Domaine François Cotat Sancerre Les Culs de Beaujeu Sauvignon Blanc
I think this is very atypical for Sancerre (or something must have been wrong with the bottle). Green apple, honey, some very faint notes of grass. Definitely feel there is some residual sugar here. Rated low because this is not typical of the style.

Dark crimson red in colour. Rather dusty and firm tannins with serious structure that dominated the fruit at first, but with time the dark red fruit became more expressive and crunchy. For a supposed natural hipster wine, this tasted quite traditional and achieved a good balance.

Prior bottle was 32 months ago (January 2020) and the wine has evolved impressively in that time. Beautiful nose of mixed red fruits (cherry and red berries), earth, spices and mineral-driven clarity. Medium bodied with a mix of red and black cherry both upfront and through the middle. Adds some darker black cherry towards the back a well as tart red cherry. Tannins and acidity provide structure, but in almost seamless balance with the fruit. Mid-body is silky and elegance which allows the fruit to show both clarity and nuance. Finishes with earth, light spices and mineral notes. Has the structure to continue to evolve positively, but with the balance being so impressive currently and the fruit showing such depth and definition, this will be hard to resist. Next bottle for me, June/July 2023.

I'm neutral on this wine. Cork was very moldy and I had difficulty pulling it out even with the Durand. Nice color. Very light nose of petrol. Low acidity and the fruit did not show very well. Some minerals. Sweet - definitely Spatlese level. I don't think age will help it.

Writing this day 2. Fascinating wine. Surprisingly fresh, has a wonderful creaminess with great acidity. Some sort of key lime pie mixed with fresh jackfruit. Cantaloupe, Marzipans slightly oaky/oxidative finish but are really far in the background. Not really sure what it would go with so I decided to not drink it with anything. Ha. Absolutely enjoyable. Not for everyone. In fact this wine is really awful. no one buy this wine (more for me)
