2011 MastroJanni Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese

This is a nice 2011. I usually hold my Brunello much longer but had heard good things about the MastroJanni and wanted to try for myself to see whether to stock up. Decanted one hour. Poured very transparent with obvious bricking already (as noted by someone else). Despite being young it is ready. Beautiful nose. Some earth and nice fruit, maybe cherry and currants. Unfortunately the score for this wine is skewed by one reviewer (Ann&Wayne) who give out very low scores for odd reasons.

1/3/2017 4:27:00 AM - Lowhook has asserted that I gave out a very low score "for odd reasons." In full disclosure, I have never professed to be a connoisseur. I merely drink wine regularly. My comment about this wine was "it was awful." That opinion was echoed by the 3 other people who drank it. We will concede that our palettes are not as sophisticated as many in this forum. The wine was thin and green and lacked any harmony of the fruit. In comparison to dozens of Brunellos consumed in Italy, this wine was awful. And I still have another bottle and I am still reluctant to open it. In my review, I stated that it could have been improperly handled prior to my possession but that does not change the wine (I drank) from being any less awful. I hope this amendment will help clarify our odd reasons for rating this wine low.

It was awful. I Deeply regret pouring it for friends. I have another bottle but I have zero motivation to open it. This a WTSO purchase. I have no way of knowing if this bad experience is bad wine or improper handling.

This is an "Okay" wine. If you are having a meal, it could hide in the background without offending. It is past its prime. I found it on the shelf at Total Wine. 2006 seemed to be too good to be true; it was.
