June 22, 2019 - Colour was light gold. Nose was very discreet at first but developed some fragrance and petrol touches on swirl with a cedar note I haven't met before in Mosel. Palate was medium bodied at most, its shape was quite round and its texture suave, sweetness was quite marked, acidity was only moderate and the finish was quite soft. It was not a good pairing for deliciously fresh dorade fish, better with goat cheeses and best on its own after the food was finished, when I began to appreciate its subtlety and elegance. I confess to some disappointment. I was expecting great things especially from 2001 where I have always found delicious acidity, minerality and backbone in the past. Just good.

April 21, 2017 - Sixteen years in, and this is developing, but not showing "aged" flavors. Instead it is a chiseled, finely detailed sculpture of Riesling. Citrus and peach fruit are charged with pure electricity. The mid-palate and finish are awash with pure, stony water flavored with lime zest There are hints of smoke, and a tiny bit of spice, but this is still mostly about fruit, stones and perfect balance.

February 23, 2017 - Light color. Vanilla bean, stone fruit, and baby powder. Perfectly light weight yet intense Mosel wine. Off dry, exciting cut and balance, still very little secondary development. These 2001 Christoffels continue to amaze.

November 25, 2016 - Opened on Thanksgiving. Golden yellow color. Peach and Apple notes. Lighter acidity. A little flabby on the finish. 85 points.

February 3, 2016 - Superb glycerin-imbued sour citrus, with superb cut, detail and amazing breadth. Huge finish. Talc, limeade, ripe gooseberries, brown spices, marzipan, honey - all the usual suspects. Just hitting its cusp into more strongly discernible tertiaries, still with plenty of zip and off-dryness. Wonderful, and young.
