Community Tasting Notes 8

November 26, 2019 - Jan 2012 disgorgement; see descriptors in bubnos' note. For me, it brought back some memories of an '88 Krug tasted a few years back. My tasting partner balked at the aldehydic notes on this while chiding my comparison to the older Krug, pointing out that this had far less complexity. It was far less complex but I think we can all be right on this one even without agreeing. This is unquestionably as "old" as you want a Champagne to taste but it is still very much alive. More a curiosity for most, not the most popular style and character. But for me it was a 91+

March 31, 2019 - Disgorged 2012- different reviews here seem to have different disgorgement dates, which could account for the different scores.

Deep gold bordering on amber. Fine bubbles that vanished in the glass and only slightly tickled the tongue. Rich yeast and toast with honey and nuts in the nose, only slightly oxidized but still lively on the palate. I perceived this as much richer than the dosage would indicate, almost a Demi-sec sweetness, which is something I’ve noticed with older champagnes. Paired very well with a spicy Asian fusion meal, at or only slightly past peak, pop and enjoy!

February 7, 2016 - Dinner with Friends (Chris and Renee's): My second time trying this wine, I thought this bottle a step up. Michael brought it, left over from his anniversary party. Light golden in color. The nose is nice with lots of minerality. A slight Vernor's note with ginger. Nice mousse. Just a hint of oxidation. On the palate, very nice minerality. This bottle seemed a bit fresher than the prior bottle. At least I didn't notice any oxidation this time. Very food friendly.

September 14, 2015 - Grower Champagne Trade Showcase: Honey and herb, toast and a little oxidative note. Good acidity, the palate is bright and the development of the fruit has rounded it out. Good character and drive.

August 9, 2015 - Lots of wines for a 25/50 Party (Lori & Mike's 25/50 Party): Disgorged 07/2014. This is drinking very nicely. Light gold in color. The nose has some minerals, slight butterscotch, and a slight smoke. On the palate, this is fresh with great minerality. Good acidity. Nice finish. A lovely, serious Champagne to celebrate all the occasions tonight. Seems to be just starting to take a turn downhill. I did not notice how recently it had been disgorged until later in the evening and was initially surprised by how fresh it was. I guess that is the reason.
