June 8, 2019 - Lisa's Big Birthday with Very Good Wine (Riverwoods, IL): Tasted double blind. Lush peach and apple with nuance and intriguing complexity. Lush, yet restrained. I thought this Northern Rhone. Very good now.

May 6, 2018 - Vinetasters: Rayas (Skokie, IL): Served double blind in a Rayas lineup. A nice enough nose, with some ripe stone fruit, tart apple, and slight herbal aromatics. Quite a rich and powerful palate, with a touch of peachiness. On the other hand, there's almost no discernible acidity on the palate. Very generous amount of glycerol, wax, and all sorts of palate-coating richness. A little bit of barnyard and a touch of bitterness. This finishes with a splash of licorice on the finish. Well made for what this is (clearly a Rhone white), but certainly not my style. However, there were whiffs of TCA here and there, and while others seemed to think that this wasn't corked (just old), I wasn't quite as confident.

September 9, 2017 - PB 50 Rayas Extravarganza (PB's house, Charlottenlund): Dark hue, oxidative notes – on the nose, but taste is pure joy; minerals, honey, rich and broad wine. Drink up.

August 31, 2017 - Not a style I love with waxy, marzipan, peach, apricot nose and a syrupy texture.

May 11, 2017 - The second time I've been lucky enough to taste this wine over the past year. Once again, a great experience. Here, as I noted in the 2004 Fonsalette Blanc, I notice marks of fennel and spices combined with a great minerality and a just a hint of citrus. Very expressive with understated richness and intensity. Truly a great Rayas blanc. With Niels at Malling Kro.
