Community Tasting Notes 5

October 14, 2020 - It didn't have any hard edges. It didn't have any profound notes. A good bottle for the price but nothing to cling to either. I suppose for less than $30 that's a lot to hope for; yet a boy can dream.

January 18, 2015 - Who says there is no value in Bordeaux? Apparently, these grapes come from a plot between Petrus and Cheval Blanc, which is nice real estate I suppose. Very impressive all around with excellent concentration and balance with nothing overblown or out of place. Red and black fruits dominate both the nose and the palate, with a subtle accent of vanilla. Despite being medium to full bodied, the acidity is notable and keeps the fruit juicy and promises at least medium term aging. This is a wonderful wine for $25 and competes with Bordeaux's at much higher price points.

January 17, 2015 - 65% merlot & 35% cabernet franc. From a half-bottle, decanted. Medium crimson-ruby colour. Proper right-bank nose with dried fruit, spicy dark plum and some cocoa later on. Fleeting cassis. The cabernet franc giving some real lift after an hour. Even though the oak was asserting itself after two hours, overall it is nicely restrained. Full body. Thick with fruit. Round and ample tannins. Initially, the wine showed sweet fruit on the front palate, but at mid-palate, the fruit submitted to the alcohol and the finish was harsh and pointed. It took an hour to sort itself out, but when it did, the sweetness of the fruit had expanded right across the palate, the cabernet franc was providing a crunch to the finish and the wine was in balance. A little bitter at the tail, but this didn't detract from the impression that this is a very substantial wine from this estate. Very good plus. Decanting is imperative.

November 9, 2014 - A well made wine. Lots of chewy structure and still has great acidity. I didn't find this very enjoyable right now, but I think it has great promise. Decently high in alcohol (14.5%), and I could feel it.

April 4, 2011 - Deep fruited, concentrated nose. Plummy, cassis fruit; nice flavours on the straightforward elegant palate which lacks a little finesse. 86-88
